Finding a job at a retail store really tough?

How difficult is it to get a part time job at a retail store like the Gap or American Eagle with no prior experience? I'm looking for something to supplement my income, but I've never worked in retail before (although I was a busser at a restaurant once). Is it hard getting a job at one of these types of stores?
