Finding a good bicycle to ride over the summer?

Hey! I'm 13 and around 5'5 ( don't want a bike too small )

I'm looking for a nice speed bike that won't cost more than 400 dollars. I like to ride around my neighborhood a lot and race my friends. I want the bike to be fast, comfortable (seat, easy to ride), last a long time, and somewhat lightweight.

I don't want to buy a bike online where i need to install all the components. I want it to come in 1 piece. Online and in store would be fine.

Thanks!!

Your budget does not allow for any of the things you want out of a bike unless you buy something used. Go to any major manufacturer's website, and look at the suggested retail prices they post for their various models, and you'll see what I mean. Under $400, especially on a road bike, doesn't even get you the most basic model anymore. You can get a hybrid, cruiser, or mountain bike under $400, but again, not a "speed" bike meant for racing, and certainly not light. Just as an example, Trek's entry level roadbike, the 1.2, goes for just under $800.

So, I'd suggest you hit the yard sales this weekend, as you can buy bikes for as little as $5, spend $100 on some new parts and a tune-up, and be good to go. Even places like Goodwill get bikes all the time. Plus, if you outgrow it in a year, you won't have wasted so much money.

There are cool simple hardtail bikes at EBAY.com ( Kona,Trek,Giant etc.). Hardtails with front suspension have average weight of 23-35 lbs.-but can handle asphalt very well. ( in EBAY -go to Sporting Goods category and find CYCLiNG-Choose mountain bikes/Road bikes either brand new or mint condition bikes will work for you---) RIDE!

You wont find a bike that comes assembled by mail order but it's not hard to put on a wheel, handlebars, and pedals. This is a very good bike in your price range and will be shop quality.
