...flagpole casts a shadow 74 feet lo? i needd helpp pleasee if you know how to do this please give me the answers to these word problems :)
An airplane is flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The pilot notices that the beginning of the runway where he plans to land is at an angle of depression of 13 degrees with the horizontal. How far horizontally must he fly to be directly over the runway?

A police helicopter flying at a height of 85 feet shines a light on a speeding vehicle below. If the angle of depression is 62 degrees, how far away to the nearest foot is the car?

The angle of depression as measured from the top of a 41 foot tower to a reference point on the ground is 65 degrees. How far away, to the nearest foot, is the reference point from the base of the tower?

Find the angle of elevation, to the nearest degree, of the sun if a 54 foot flagpole casts a shadow 74 feet long.

A 50 foot fire truck ladder is leaning against a wall of a burning building. The ladder makes a 70 degree angle with the ground. To the nearest foot, how far up the wall of the building does the ladder reach?

The shadow of a vertical tower is 58 feet long when the angle of elevation of the sun is 36 degrees. What is the height of the tower to the nearest foot?

The angle of elevation from the top of a small building to the top of a nearby taller building is 46 degrees, while the angle of depression from the same spot on the smaller building to the bottom of the taller building is 14 degrees. The smaller building is 48 feet high. Approximately what is the height of the taller building?

All of these use either sin, cos or tan functions to solve the problem.

For the first one:
tan(13) = 10000/x.
0.230868 = 10000/x
x = 43314.8.
So the plane will have to travel 43314.8 feet horizontally to be directly over the runway.

For the rest of them, just remember:
sin = opposite / hypotenuse
cos = adjacent / hypotenuse
tan = opposite / adjacent
