Financial assistance....?

I'm 37 years old, out of work, (couldn't draw unemployment) and have no medical insurance......but NOW, I have a broken arm (fractured my humerus bone), which IS healing. But the ER bills are close to $5,000. Then, I went to the the orthopedic doctor and just to be seen was $500 (up-front), plus $948 for the brace, x-rays, etc. And then, each time I go for a follow-up and additional x-rays, it's another $200 (each visit). Now, when all that isn't enough, I will soon have to start going to physical therapy.*

I'm also starting to fear that the ortho will may refuse any further visits if I don't pay up.

Isn't there ANY sort of federal assistance, medicaid, etc available to me? Most importantly, who do I contact to talk to about this, first.

I had to stop looking for work during the healing and I STILL cannot drive yet. It's only 3 weeks in since my fracture and the money situation (not just from medical bills) but also my general living expenses has me a little freaked out! I don't know where else to turn. I just feel like there has to be some kind of (temporary) financial aid out there.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
