I have been recently awarded the Pell and Hope Grant.I am confused about both.I am going after a certificate right now and later on going back for a degree.I am going for a CNA certificate and I went to the financial aide people and they said the only one that is paying for my tuition now is the Hope grant. But why is it showing on the payments that both the Pell and Hope is paying. Is the college wrong? And I was also told that if I have the Hope grant I have to pay that back? I have no idea what to do.Someone please help me.

If the Hope scholarship is paying your full tuition and mandatory fees, plus a book allowance then you may not need the Pell grant. This depends on what your school's cost of attendance is, and how much you're receiving in Hope grant money. Basically, if everything's already paid for, then why would you need another grant? The Hope grant does not have to be paid back unless you withdraw or drop classes that would make you ineligible (sort of like the Pell), then a percentage of it may be requested back. This site gives all of the rules and regulations for 2009-2010: http://www.gsfc.org/main/publishing/pdf/2009/hope_grant_regs.pdf

If your account is showing both the Pell grant and Hope grant money in it, then you need to speak with the financial aid adviser again to insure that they haven't messed up. If you have Pell grant money, then most of it should be refunded to you because the Hope grant will cover everything.
