I am trying to go back to grad school for a Master's in Occupational Therapy. I currently work with children with Autism and want to continue my career in this field. Finding money for school is hard. The financial aid department at the university I am applying to told me that grants for grad school just don't exist. They said 85% of the students take out student loans. I am not totally against this but want to know:
1) How do I get money for living expenses while in school? and does that have to be paid back?
and 2) I have heard of repayment programs for working in industries such as Special Needs/Special Education. How hard are these programs to get into? How much of a chance would I have at getting my loans repaid or discharged?
Thanks for any help. It's hard to imagine I have to go through this to try get an education so I can help others.
