My fiancee is going to an undergraduate institution full time this semester in Pennsylvania. She was offered Stafford loans (Sub/unsubsidized) and signed the MPN (master promissary note) for the full amount. Because she is taking maximum credits this semesters (all of which are in her major) she will have a very heavy work load and will be able to work part time at most, using the loan money for living expenses this semester.
Last Friday she got an email from the financial aid office saying her loans had been reduced. This e-mail was sent 30 minutes before the end of the business day, and was on the last day you had to add/drop classes or withdraw from the institution.
She did not check her e-mail friday night (she had checked it around 3 pm) and had no opportunity to consider whether she would need to change her plans, much less actually change them. Is there something we can do to get the full loan amount back?
