Didn't see this posted so posting it now. The new 2.### ROM is finally out on the NokiaUSA site for e70-2 devices. Just did mine without issue. Time to start testing!

Please elaborate on this. I'm sure all the e70 users out there would be curious to know of your experience. Does it help available memory management at all? Any improvements in performance?

The screen delay when opening/closing the keyboard takes about a second or so now. It definitely still hangs but isn't as long as before. Running Handy Taskman shows no difference when opening/closing keyboard. The memory allotment also seems to refresh faster after closing a appication. Running Opera Mobile causes the memory to drop from 13.5Mb to 8.5Mb. Running the built-in Web goes down to 9.1Mb. This used to drop down below 4Mb on mine so I would say that's better. Menu speed seems about the same, perhaps a little faster. Haven't tested MP3 sound volume yet. I beleive I read that it goes lower after the upgrade. Don't really use that however as I mainly stream with Internet Radio. Call volume appears to be the same as well. Mine was always pretty loud though.

Go to here: http://www.nokiausa.com/support/software/softwareupdate/1,8838,,00.html

Select the e70, download the Updater software and follow the instructions. Takes about 20-25 minutes to complete. Make sure you backup your phone as it erases everything stored in phone memory (Contacts, Calendar, Themes, etc....).

Thanks for the link and the info. I`m a bit nervous to try it tho. Please continue to post anymore pos/neg stuff you expierience from the update. and thanks again

As mentioned, the screen-shift delay when opening the keyboard has been greatly reduced. I also spent about 15 minutes web-browsing with the Nokia browser on media-heavy sites with no problem at all, which before would produce the out-of-memory error in less than a minute, so obviously a huge improvement there. These 2 things were the only real gripes that most people had with the phone, so it would seem that the E70 is now "ready for prime-time."

I loaded last night without a hitch. I always have a backup of contacts and calendar through exchange and my installed apps are in a folder on my PC and I'm not to bothered by SMS etc so I went ahead and ran the updater.
first impressions
1. You can now power use the browser without issues, I surfed numerous forums and graphically intense sites for about 20 minutes over wifi no problem.
2. My Truphone VOIP seems to work marginally better and I experienced no dropouts on a 25 minute call with GREAT voice quality.

3. Flip out keyboard works about 75% quicker, making it much more useable on the fly.

4. The volume on music player is lower significantly so which kind of sucks, but I use in ear buds with AD-46 so its not too much of a problem, but playing to external speakers which I do quite often will change.

5. Overall minor speed boost it seems in moving around apps.

6. I might be reaching but the Camera seems to take slightly 'brighter' pictures.

IMHO, I would UPDATE NOW if you have this phone all of the problems that I had with it before are now virtually gone. The memory issue is a godsend, I can now listen to music and surf the web at the same time. I can even surf the web and play music in landscape mode.

Put it this way before the update I was about 3 more resets away from putting on Ebay and getting an E61 now I am definately keeping this phone.

New firmware is
2.0618.07.10
31-08-06
RM-24
Nokia E70

Just chiming in to say that the update went flawlessly on my end. It is a must-get because, as others have said, it fixes all those memory issues and boosts overall speed significantly.

I tried the update at work today and my phone got bricked. I will be heading to the Nokia Flagship today to see if they can help but I think I'm going to have to send it out. This sucks. I was really looking forward to the update.

Also, the Java Virtual Machine must have been updated because some of the J2ME games I tried before are working WAY better than they used to.

Did anyone with call clarity problems before the update find that after they updated their phones, call quality improved? That was my only gripe with the E70-2...
