I've been going back and forht with doctors for a while now. I am to get an MRI of the C-Spine and T-Spine. The doctor ordered it without contrast. I said that since I've been waiting to have an MRI for so long, I wouldn't mind getting it done with contrast. He said that contrast is really only for people who have had previous spinal surgeries and things like that. Because my x-rays looked pretty normal, the MRI is to look for any herniation or pinched nerves. So...
A.) Is he right in not requesting contrast?
B.) I am allergic to iodine contrast used in CT exams, the doctor says that this means I will be allergic to MRI contrast as well, is this true? If not, why would he say it? (Bare in mind, he made the choice to go with no contrast before he even knew any of my contrast history.)
I would really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks.
