Finally an OS update for Rogers!

I upgraded "cause whenever the phone would ring and the trackball was only slightly moved, the ringer would pause and start from the top... kind of gets anoying if you keep the phone in your purse or pocket... Also, the phone would not stay in stand-by mode, it would just somehow shift to keylock mode... Glad to say that those issues are no more!

The track ball thing is good.

Another item I noticed is with BlackBerry Messenger. With 51, when typing a URL, "http://", the ":/" portion would turn into an emoticon and break the link. This occurred with sending and receiving URLs in Messenger. Though, the URL would only be broken in 4.2, as 4.1 didn't have an emoticon for :/.

It's a small thing, but noticeable nonetheless.

The reason why I jumped Rogers ship and upgraded with the Cingular OS is because of the Pearl not staying in Standby-mode. That, and I wanted the extra themes, but the Standby-mode thing was key. No more pocket 911 calls for me!

Sorry, I meant to say that it's fixed now.

And Google Talk actually works. I couldn't get it to work reliably with .51.

Am I dumb? This will be the first time I update my pearl but when I follow that link I get:
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.0.61 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.0.61
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.0.51
Software Platform: 2.2.0.32
File name: 8100M_PBr4.2.0_rel61_PL2.2.0.32_A4.2.0.51_Rogers.exe
File size: 68.0 MB

Where's this .79 you guys are talking about?

It was out like for 2 days on the blackberry website but then yanked. Apparently rogers hasn't tested it yet to make it available to the wider public. However you can go to Cingular and download the .71 . I'm with Rogers and I have had no problem with the Cingular OS .71 .

Actually the update is available on the offical rogers site:

https://www.shoprogers.com/web_auth/techsupport.asp?shopperID=test&type=

Just select Blackberry and Pearl, and you will see .79 package (.67 app ver).

Thanks, found it. For any other noobs you need to delete the vendor.xml file from this one as it doesn't work otherwise. That took me another while to realize. But, I got it.
