Finally an OS update for Rogers!

I'd been running OS .51 on my Rogers Pearl and was having a couple of problems... Namely A) the trackball would stop the ringer when th ephone was in my pocket and B) the phone wouldn't stay in stand-by mode. I've read that upgrading the OS resolves these issues. BTW I am just now downloading the update so I don't know if the issues are in fact resolved... I'll give the heads up once I've installed it on the Pearl!
 
I don't have a data plan 'cause I'm a student and SMS is more useful and cheap for me So no PINs... sorries!
Anyways, we better stick to the topic so the thread doesn't get deleted!
 
Finally was able to install the new OS and it is great! No more problem with the trackball, call delay or stand-by mode
I did have to delete the vendor.xml file to get the update to work, but everything's working fine now.
 
When I was having trouble installing it, I called Rogers tech support and the CSR told me that this version has not been tested by Rogers yet... Maybe that's why?! But then again, that's just my noob-opinion :P

That's odd, because I have the original Pearl OS from Rogers, and the track ball does not mute the ringer. It silences it momentarily, but it starts up again after a couple of seconds.

I will attempt the new OS later when I get back to the office.

Are you on BES? (probably not if you're a student...)

How do you afford a dog, but not a BlackBerry Data Plan?
 
Sorry... should have said "momentarily silences the ringer". Either way, this doesn't happen with the new OS.
BTW even though that's my dog, I split any dog-related expenses with my parents... can't say that about my cell phone bill.
 
Couple of weeks ago, I upgrade to the 0.71 Cingular OS (I'm a Rogers customer) -- is there anything new added to this 0.79 update that is not in the 0.71 Cingular?
