Finacia: Possible long term side effects.

FYI, after approx (1) year of using Finacea my Liver ALT/AST levels had more than doubled. New drug trials did not address long term side effects. My PCP and Liver Specialist had me abstain from alcohol and ordered complete scans of my abdominal and liver. Docs were thinking liver Nash with next step being Liver Biopsy. I had suspected the Finacia from the beginning but was reluctant to give up as it worked so well and Docs indicated it most likely had nothing to do with elevated ALT/AST levels. After stopping Finacea for (4) months ALT/AST came back to normal levels. I know use MetroGel for my Rosacea. I believe over time the Acid base in Finacea is too harsh as indicated in elevated liver readings....MetroGel attacks the Rosacea through antibiodics.
 
I have been using this (Finacia) for about 2 yrs. with NO problems. I've had many blood tests--I have to every 6 months because of another drug that I'm taking--and everything is normal. I'm sorry you had problems. Did you have any idea that you had this side effect before the blood testing?
 
No idea, I actually felt pretty good until I got Liver readings. It wasn't until I stopped Finacia that I saw the drop back to normal. Too bad, the results from Finacia were better than MetroGel. Take Care and Thx for responding.
