Filter Help?

i purchased a canon rebel xti w/ canon 28-105 ll usm lens and i am wondering if i should get a uv filter. if i should get a filter please tell me exctly which one. also i am low on money right now so please suggest a good low cost one please. also i'd like to know if they would reduce the quality of the picture. thanks
 
uv filters are good for filtering uv glare, good at altitude et cetera, get one.

the right one is the one the same diameter as your lens, a 58mm i think - have a look for the diameter symbol on the front of the lens, the size in mm will be next to it

next a polarizer and then the worlds your oyster

Get the Hoya 58mm UV filter. They only cost about $20. I keep this on my lens all the time. It will help keep scratches off your lens as well.
