Films you've only watched/would watch for the actors alone.

Ditto me with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Needless to say, I would watch his films in my room alone at night, and it wasn't his acting skills I was admiring :o :o

I've been doing it a lot recenty.

I've been going through kung fu phase so I specifically got some films that I hadn't seen that starred certain actors.

Jet Li - I've seem many of his films but not Once Upon A Time In China 1 & 2
Tony Jaa - I'd seen Ong Bak but not Warrior King

and off the back off that I watched a Thai martial arts film called Chocolate, didn't know any of the actors in it but I enjoyed it so watched another film that the lead actress was in called Raging Phoenix.

Without those connections I dout I would have watched any of those unless they popped up on late night tv and I had nowt else to do.

But could you not get the same effect by watching youtube, looking at pics of him, and other various clips around the net?

You see, the problem I have with people who idolise certain actors is that they generally want to see them playing wholesome, heroic and non-controversial roles...but what if your favorte actor played a nasty, real-life serial killer, or a rapist, or Adolf Hitler or Osama Bin Laden...?

I watched CrossroaRAB (I also have it on dvd) because it has britney in it, I genuinely don't think it's that bad. I watch it every now and again.

Also considered seeing streetdance 3D because diversity are in it and I have a crush on Ashley Banjo. :o :)

As you say it's your problem. One of the reasons for casting a big star in a film is in the hope that the actor brings in the audience.

Millions of people watch movies because a certain actor is in them (i.e. fans) and vice versa, millions won't watch for the same reason.

I don't agree for one moment that the role has to be a 'good guy' rather than a 'bad guy'.

I was going to say he seems to say this, but I'd go further and say that he also seems to always choose good films to be in.

Equally, I treat anything with Uma Thurman in it with caution as she does have a realy knack of picking dogs.

I agree that it's a bit silly to watch a film because you fancy one of the actors in it, but if you genuinely enjoy watching a particular actor, why shouldn't you watch something you might ordinarily have bypassed just to see them? I'll watch practically anything that has Alan Rickman in it. Yes, that means I've sat through some spectacularly rubbish films, but I've always enjoyed his performance, even if I haven't enjoyed the film itself.

The most recent film I've watched just for an actor was Public Enemies, which I watched because I like Johnny Depp. I wasn't disappointed :)

And no i haven't seen dead men?

I never liked the last 2 pirate movies. They got ridiculously long and Depp's portrayal was never as good as his oscar nominated one in the first.

I think so. I only started to like JD after he did the first Pirates film and I liked him in them all (the first one is still the best though). In fact, I'm not sure I'd ever watched a JD film before then. I wouldn't watch a film just because he was in it because he picks such a huge range of roles to play. I watched Sweeney Todd (over rated) and Edward Scissor Hand (different), but I'm not interested in watching Charlie or Alice. I started Once Upon a Time in Mexico and will finish watching one day! Finding Never Land and Public Enemies appeal, but The Corpse Bride and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus don't. The guy's got 14 films in development, so there will one or two in there!

Wow, erm, that's quite the rant you've got there, but I purely made this thread out of curiosity to see how many people could honestly admit that at times a film is watched because of who is in it.

I usually base films on the story, genre, etc. and rarely on the actors but on this occasion I was different and I was interested in others, that's all. But calm down, please.

Anything with Jack Lemmon. Even if the movie is a stinker, you know you're always going to get a fabulous preformance from him.
