Films you've only watched/would watch for the actors alone.

Right now I'm watching the film "Sunshine Cleaning" on Sky Movies Premiere right now, and it's one I always wanted to see simply because of the actresses Emily Blunt and Amy Adams who are cast as sisters and are the main characters of the show. If they were actresses I didn't know I probably wouldn't have touched the channel, but because I love them both, it's the only reason I'm watching it.

Has anyone only watched a film because of someone they like whose in it even though you wouldn't have looked twice if it was someone else?

I'm not too keen on horror movies involving ghosts, and I initially only watched Umberto Lenzi's classic Ghosthouse because Lara Wendel was in it. Gorgeous. :D

In the end, it also turned out to be a surprisingly good horror film.

Well you made the point better than I did, actually...though I doubt you were even aware of it.

Yes, of course certain actors are put in movies to 'sell' them to the public...including a lot of bad movies.

I believe if you make such shallow choices, you will end up seeing an awful lot of bad films.

I know people who still go and watch movies that are known to be pretty awful, just because their favorite actor is in it and gets their kit off.

And they end up saying 'Yeah...it was bad...but X looked gorgeous in it!' That to me would be a complete waste of time and money.

Kevin Costner
Arnie Schawartznegger
Richard Gere
Harrison Ford
Clint Eastwood

all films seem to be not bad to watch, maybe theres more, but cant think right now :D

Lions for Lambs, which I only watched for Meryl Streep and found quite dull. I ordinarily wouldn't have watched something starring pint sized prat Cruise but Meryl made it bearable.

I may also have watched Rendition for Meryl as well, but that was well worth it.

I tried to watch "Mammoth" because it had Summer Glau in it, but the movie defeated me. I was curious because I'd mostly seen her cast as either a robot or otherwise dysfunctional person, and I wanted to see how she coped with a more normal role. Is that a bad reason to see a film?

Seconded. Every film I've seen with him in it enRAB up being a brilliant film. Training Day is my all time favourite Denzel movie.

I watched Serpico for the first time the other week. I'd heard it was a classic but only really watched it because Pacino was in it and it was one of his early roles.

It's a pretty shallow reason to watch a movie...just because an actor you like is in it.

There isn't an actor alive who has not made their share of bad movies, and a lot of them make fair-to-middling movies, with only a handful managing to pull off performances that make the movie something special.

And to prove the point...in just a handful of posts we have already had the typical 'I saw X movie because Y was in it and I like them, but the movie was rubbish' posts.

And most brainless and stupid of all...people who watch movies because they find certain actors 'hot'. For goRAB sake...you have the internet at your disposal...if you want to perve, drool or salivate over certain actors, I am sure you will find plenty of opportunites to do so.

There are those who just like to 'look' at certain actors...they don't care about acting ability, how good or bad they are...their criteria of a good performance probably depenRAB on how much clothing they take off.

So their definition of a 'good actor' has nothing whatsoever to do with acting itself.

And it's not that I am being anal about the whole acting thing...there are some actors who can get away with doing very little actual acting, but have a strong onscreen presence that helps to carry a role and make a movie entertaining...Clint Eastwood and Michael Caine would be good examples of this (though in recent years both have actually pulled of some pretty good acting roles).

But then for every Clint Eastwood there is a Keanu Reeves, and for every Michael Caine there is a Danny Dyer...

On a similar note but slightly off topic, you should have seen the thread for Luther. The first page was filled with posters (mostly female) watching because Idris Elba (The Wire) was in it. After that it was pretty comical as the show was ripped to shreaRAB :D

Well I don't actually do the whole ''watching it because X is in it"; even with TV I never watch anything just because it has someone in it. I go for premises and franchise personally.

So the only ever times I've watched a film for that reason alone is back about 7 years ago when I was doing though a TOTAL bewitched obsession (still like it now but it's died down) but watched several movies with Elizabeth Montgomery in back then just because she was in them. Found them all really boring.

Saw the reader and revolutonary road to see what the big fuss was over winslet's protrayals. She was dull in both of them.

Saw Atonement for Keira knightley and it is now one of my all time fav movies.
And Pride and Predijuice which i hated

I really wanna see Dear John and Letters from juliet because i absolutley adore Amanda Seyfried.

I also wanna see Edward Scissor HanRAB, Edwood and Sweeny tod because of Johnny depp who knows how to play weird characters so well.

I wanna see more movies with Megan Fox just to see if she can act as she wasn't half bad in Jennifer's Body but any actress could have played that role.

What's the big deal about watching films because you like an actor in them?

I don't mind admitting I do it. Just like I watch films based on directors, writers, styles, genres, storylines, adaptations of novels etc etc. There's no reason why anything that leaRAB you to watch a film should mean you end up watching a good film, no need to single out actors.
