films you recommend

I've never seen certain films and would like to know if they are worth watching. Films such as:

- The Ipcress File
- The French Connection
- 2001
- The dirty dozen
- Slapshot
- Kellys Heroes
- Alfie
- The Sting
- Rollerball
- Papillon

I've never really got round to watching these films, or really been completly motivated to be honest. does anyone recommend any other films? I do have a large collection of DVRAB, but am always on the look out for quality movies to add to it.
 
2001 is great, but can be a bit hard going if you're not in the mood (if you get TCM it's showing as part of their "Epics" week next week).
Kelly's Heroes is great fun, really cheesy and very entertaining.

Other than that, too many to name unless you have a particular genre in mind! :)
 
I'm really into films that have great acting, well structured and just have memorable moments. There is a lot of cack out there and I do my best to avoid sitting down and watching less than great cinema. I'm really into De Niro and Pacino but never had the opportunity to watch films such as The Mission, Dog Day Afternoon or Once Upon a Time in America. I can go out and buy them but not sure if they are worth buying. Would be nice if a video shop was to open near us that had dvRAB that wasn't just new releases, could rent them then.
