Films with BETTER sequels?

In light of the other thread, I got to wondering which films had sequels made that were better than the original. For me Godfather springs to mind easily. Any others?

Yep, Terminator 2, Shrek 2 (not better but as good) Harry Potter 3, Scream 2 (marginally!) Godfather pt. 2, Aliens (well... not really as good but will very cool)

Scream 1 was wel betta than Scream 2!! not that scream 2 wasnt good but Scream 1 was betta.. anyway.. em, i had one in mind then but i cant remember now.. lol, oh The Skulls 2 is just as gud if not marginally betta than the first.. LOTR sequels.. Terminator 2..

Not sure if they got better as such but the Indiana Jones films were consistently entertaining at least - my favourite one being Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.

Empire Strikes Back was better the the first Star Wars in my opinion.

Shrek was very good but somehow Shrek 2 beat it immensely. Now I am waiting to see what Shrek 3 and 4 is like.

No, No, No.. The original Terminator film is the best of the trilogy so far. It's more dark and Arnie is great in that film.

The Empire Strikes Back, is of course the best Star Wars film ever made.

Back to the Future Part II is the best of the trilogy.

But a lot of other films, it falls down. Ghostbusters was better than its sequel, Raiders of the Lost Ark was the best of the three films. There's not much out there I can think of which may be better than the original.

Cube and Hypercube??? Hmm, now I'm really having to think hard..

dttuser I always liked BTTFpt2 as well! I wouldnt say better, but more varied. HP3 seems the same now.




HAHA, I always loved the second psycho. Dear me. My mum boguht me the original today, for no apparent reason. (I do film studies, so theyre my study books!. )

Yes, it was the sequel, but it was in no way whatsoever, better than 'Alien'.

'Alien' was an absolute Sci-fi CLASSIC!
The word 'classic' is bandied about far too easily these days, but 'Alien' is one of the few films that actually deserves to be called a classic. You only have to mention 'the John Hurt Moment' or 'the Chest-Buster Scene' and everyone instantly knows what you are talking about.
It has gone down in Cinema history as THE definitive Sci-fi?horror movie, and deservedly so IMO.

Aliens - on the other hand - is a great action/monster movie, an excellent film in it's own right, but no more than that.

Don't get me wrong - I loved Aliens, and Alien3 too (the 4th - 'Resurrection' was pap) but neither could hold a candle to the first one.

Back to the future is far superior to II and III

There is only one superior sequel I can think of and that is Shrek 2. It excells in every department and is miles ahead of the original.
