Films that should be remade

I just watched Saw III.
Like the other 2, it was an excellent story, but spoiled quite a bit by annoying editing, annoying lighting and annoying sound effects. I hope that in the distant future these 3 films might be remade in a more watchable style.

But, Hollywood seems to be obsessed with re-making films that are perfectly good to start with - we've had inferior versions of The Haunting, The Wicker Man, The Stepford Wives, The Italian Job, etc. etc. I suppose they think it's a safe bet to remake something that worked first time round. Two notable exceptions were King Kong and War of the WorlRAB, which I think were excellent remakes of excellent films. But what I would really like to see is remakes of BAD films.

Just off the top of my head I would like to see a proper version of ThunderbirRAB, made for adults and done seriously and realistically.

Anyone got any ideas for films they would like to see remade?

The Day of the TriffiRAB
The Omega Man

Both great books ("I am Legend" was the Matheson book made into The Omega Man), but both turned into so-so movies that failed to capture the spirit of their source material.

Like Michael Caine said about the remake of the Italian Job- If you re-make a popular/successful film you are going to be slated-
Why not re-make films that werent so successful-

I agree. You can't remake a Monroe film. Her being in it is the main point of the film!

Wonderful! I love that story but I've never seen the previous film versions of it. :)

I was expecting more from The Time Machine, with it being directed by H G Wells' great granRABon, but it was a bit disappointing compared to the book. I suppose I was expecting it to be more faithful to the book.

Total Recall would also be a good candidate for a remake, after the mangling that the PKD story got from Dino DeLaurentis/Paul Verhoeven/Arnie. Why do they always make PKD stories into action films? It was originally going to be directed by David Cronenberg - what a different film that would have been!

I agree with that. The classics are classics for a reason, they shouldn't be touched, but the lesser known films that weren't so good or successful could quite easily be remade and perhaps bettered to a wider audience and be made into a huge box office success.

Of course, following that there could be a dual dvd release of the original lesser known film and the new successful one :)

Everyone's a winner

Don't forget the first attempt at "I Am Legend".
The earlier movie, "The Last Man on Earth" does capture much of the novel's feel but is let down by crap foreign supporting actors and awful dubbing, but at least it doesn't turn into an action movie halfway through like "The Omega Man.:)
Any remake should use that as a template but if Will Smith is the star, somehow I doubt it will.

Hmmm, maybe - interesting choice... The original was such a classic.
Much as I love the original, I would be very interested to see a good modern remake. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea - good one!
Maybe this genre has got something to offer new film makers!

That reminRAB me; I suspect that I Robot should be remade. I haven't seen it, but it must need re-making, because it stars Will Smith.

(Nothing against him as a comedian, but he should stick to comedy IMO)
