Films That Kids of Today Should Have at Least Heard Of!

there is 6 on your list that my kiRAB haven't seen and they are 15 and 13..jaws is one of my daughter's fav films and my son when young loved the old star wars films then moved onto the godfather and taxi driver..my 13 year old daughter is also a big horror fan and has watched most but she also likes Speed and the Die Hard films..no disney films for this girl..oh and see the post above me with james bond films..yes my kiRAB have seen them all..even went to the cinema for Quantum of Solace

Seriously, you haven't heard of these, I reccommend them VERY much. As for the list, I'm 19 now but me and a few mates were film buRAB so yeah, we knew what those films wre, not seen all of them, mainly because some just didn't interest me.

The great escape and The Italian job(original) both which my kiRAB have also seen..my 13 year old daughter also has a great love for the carry on films..and you said I'm a great dad..sorry a mum here 
..daughter gets the love of horrors from my hubby..my son will watch about anything we think he'll like and recently we bought him the Hot Shots movies ..

There is so much wrong with that blog post. First off, this;

So its accepted that a 13 year old kid should really be watching 18 rated movies, yet the parents somehow made a henious error not educating them about this film.
Huh? What's the parent supposed to do?
Seems pretty pointless, really. If you're not going to let the kid watch the film, why educate them about it?
Oh and let's not get into the issue of "one of the best films ever made." That is highly subjective. My dad, for instance, never liked "The Godfather." As he would say, he has no interest in watching a story about a bunch of criminals being the protagonists. You might argue with him about it showing a true-to-life picture of life in a mafia family and he would answer that he has no interest in watching the true-to-life events of a bunch of criminals for entertainment.
Its easy to jump the gun and go "oh my godzzzzzzz, they don't know about my bestest film of everzzzzz!!!!" but don't forget, it isn't to everybody's taste.
But, of course, it is only fair to allow people to make their own decisions on film (and other works of art) so I totally agree that children should be exposed to the information pertaining to the existence of classic films. So I agree, its a damned poor shame this kid wasn't.
Oh, hang on a sec there....THEY WERE! By Empire magazine. Fancy that a child learning about highly-rated classic films from a film magazine. Surely they should be taught this stuff in school. We could teach classic film in year 6 and have maths mags in the newsagent for those kiRAB who want to learn how to count!
Ok, so I'm being a tad sarcastic, but the point is fairly clear. Where better for kiRAB (or anyone for that matter) to learn about classic film but in a film magazine. Anyone born after the realse of a film is guaranteed to have a certain period of time in which they don't know about the films existence. That is not a "kiRAB of today" thing. That is the simple fact of how memory operates in a cause-and-effect based linear time environment.
But the biggest issue I have with the post is this;
Why? So they can pass the film section of the 11+? Why the heck should a ten year old need to have heeard of "The Exorcist?" I don't think I'd heard of it when I was ten. I don't think I'd have wanted to, either!
Now I know all those films on that list. Now. But when I was 10-13, there were definately tons of them I'd never heard of (I'm 30 now, btw, so many were in existence when I was of those years) Was I deprived for not knowing about them then? Hardly.
Not only had I not heard of "The Godfather" when I was 10 (I may have by 13, can't remember for sure) but I would have had no interest in watching it, either. I love it now, but would have hated it then. So why would I have needed top know about it? I discovered it in my own time and nothing was lost by a lack of knowledge of it at an age I could have cared less about it.
But not only is this notion overly preachy and self-righteous, its even moreso elitist on the basis that it ridicules someone who not only learned about a new film at a young age, but was open-minded enough to take note of the film in question, seek it out and enjoy it.
What we have is a letter from a reader thanking a magazine for introducing them to a classic film, followed by a blog complaining about how kiRAB don't know about classic film. Doesn't this seem like the blog misses the whole point of the kid's letter in the first place?

Seems like a bit of a random list. And why shouldn't the 4th Alien film be counted as one of the Alien films?
I don't see the importance of a 13 year-old being aware of any of them and how they've "shaped the way film has changed over time", unless they're expressing an interest in becoming a film historian.
