Films spoiled by poor American accents

Watching Sin City the other day I thought how much better thsi would have been if Clive Owen could do an American accent, or if they'd cast an American.

Tim Roth in Reservoir Dogs was even worse.

Can anyone think of any more, and how come Australian actors can all do great American accents?
 
Tim Roth in Pulp Fiction was a pretty shocking, too.

Actually if you watch Derailed, Clive Owen must have got a better voice coach, cos he's got the accent down now.

Because Americans think Aussie accents sound like there own sadly and they should be learnt to expect different accents.

As an actor myself, an American accent is tough to do.

Hugh Laurie is the master of the American Accent though because there are many americans who never had heard of him before Stuart Little Movies or House.
 
:eek: no no no no...he's the reason I didn't get to watch the show again ( only watched the 1st ep of the first series)...the worst American accent I've ever heard...ever!!!!

He just mumbles his accent away!
 
Does people with American accents trying to do other accents count?

I don't know whether it's any good but I can't bear to watch much of the film Out Of Africa with Meryl Streep doing that South African accent.
 
Hugh Laurie does the best american accent - quite different from the way he speaks normally!

Kate Winslet isn't bad either - in Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind.

Meryl Streep's accent in Out of Africa is a great example - truly awful. In fact I find it distracting to see almost any actor* doing a different accent. I realise that it's part of what acting is all about, but I find myself waiting for slip-ups. It can really stop you believing in the character.

(* honorable exceptions: Hugh Laurie in House and Eric Bana in Black Hawk Down and Munich.)

Two other all-time howlers: Brad Pitt in Seven Years in Tibet and Heather Graham in From Hell. I also found Nicole Kidman's English accent in The Hours very wobbly. What was the point in casting her in the Virginia Woolf role, other than to help get the film financed? Any number of Brit actors could have done a much better job. Best Actress Oscar, RAB???? She wasn't even the lead actress in that film, Julianne Moore was! Ugh, don't get me started...
 
His accent's excellent. My OH's American and he's extremely impressed by it, it's just very occassionally that his stresses and emphasis in certain worRAB are more English then Amercian, but you've got to be looking for it to notice.

Mickey Rourke's "Irish" accent in A Prayer for the Dying - started off in Northern Ireland, paid a quick visit to Southern Ireland and Scotland, had a dirty weekend in Liverpool before returning home to America.

Ewan McGregor can't do American at all, he's not that hot on an English accent either.

Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain - spot on througout.
 
I think my all time worst has to be the Irish accents in Far and Away (Tom and Nicole what were you thinking) closely followed by Julia Roberts in Michael Collins, she ruined that whole film for me, it's supposed to be the life story of an Irish legend and all i did was sit cringing at how awful her accent was and how she kept slipping back into an american one.
