Could anyone recommend some good films about the Troubles in Northern Ireland? I'm growing more fascinated with this part of history the older I get it seems.
Many thanks :)

Most movies about the "Troubles" have involved Neil Jordan in some shape or form.
The top 10 in order of quality are

Cal
The Crying Game.
Bloody Sunday
Harrys Game
In the Name Of The Father
Some Mothers Son
The Boxer
A Prayer For The Dying
Devils Own
Mickybo and Me

Film Four are showing The Wind That Shakes the Barley in the next few weeks.

One of the satellite film channels recently showed The Mapmaker which I'd never heard of before, but is a quite interesting look at the tensions in the border country.

I purposely did not refer to movies like "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" and "Michael Collins" because these were about the creation of the Irish Free State in the 20s, not specifically about the "Troubles" that we now refer to .

I know that this is a tv thing but this may get a theatrical release its called Five Minutes of Heaven its going to be shown by the BBC in the new year and it stars Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt its worth a look.

The new Steve McQueen directed movie Hunger opens tonight in Dublin, not sure if it's a UK release too.
It did really well at Cannes winning best debut film, I think?

In the Name of the the Father is IMO, best movie about the troubles, excellently directed and acted, and really plays out the inequality of the situation of the time.

Some Mother's Son is about the huger strikers too and devastatingly sad.

The Boxer with Day Lewis again in a lead role is also compelling, and Bloody Sunday is also very informative.
