Film:world trade centre

I've just been watching various trailers and came across one for a film that's set to come out in august starring Nicolas Cage called World Trade Centre it's based on a true story about two men went in to help evacuate the towers and got trapped. Just watching the trailer had me in tears.
The reason for my post though is to ask 'Should this have really been made?'
Yes it's been 5 years since the WTC was attacked but for a lot of people it's still a raw wound that really doesn't need to be poked. On the other hand maybe it is time for a story like this to remember the very brave people who went in to help.
For me i'm indesisive about it if i did go to see it i don't think i would see it at the cinema cos if the traillers any indecation i'd be balling my eyes out at it. However just seeing the trailler brings up alot of memories of sitting in my living room on sept 11 watching sky news/CNN/BBC24 and all the other news channels broadcasting the images and all the feelings of horror at seeing what had happened.
What do you all think?

I think United 93 handled the subject matter well. The trailer for World Trade Center made me want to vommit for all the wrong reasons. I was almost expecting the Team America theme to play at one point. Urrgh.

As for whether or not these movies should have been made? Sure, why not? Maybe it's a little early, and maybe the movie studios have been counting the days until they finally felt enough time had passed to be able to exploit the event, but given that politicans have milked 9-11 almost from day 1, I don't see this as being any more different or distasteful. At least in the movies, it's fairly inconsequential, and you can always just decide to give it a pass.

There will always be a market to be milked when it comes to human diasater films, as long as there is a risk somebody else will cash in on it

Why shoouldn't a film director and his crew of actors/production fictionalise a story dreamt up a short time after an event.

Five years may be too short for some, but given time and the advance of communications, you could have somebodies opinions of an event brought to you a second after it occurs, web-sites and news channels already get distorted news to you a few minutes after.

Oliver Stone (the director) has said that the film is 95% true, and also the character played by Nicolas Cage and his family acted as consultants on the story & the film, ensuring that it was as accurate as possible.

I've no objection to films like this being made. I probably won't be seeing it myself (just not my cup of tea) but lots of people will go I'm sure. Ultimately if you don't like the idea of the film, finding it distasteful, just don't go and see it.

It was bound to be turned into a film at some stage. Personally it's not one I would go to watch and I'm not sure about the actual ethics of turning a major disaster in to a Hollywood film. I hope it's been as sensitively dealt with as Flight 93.

Yes its been 5 years since the WTC was attacked and movies are coming out every month, either a documentry or a movie about the WTC. In another 5 years time more movies and documentries will be coming out, or possible remakes from some of the previous wtc movies.

Adam Sandler is starring in a drama movie based on families and frienRAB on the attacks of the WTC, dont believe me here it is - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490204/.

So lets look back and see how many movies and documentires have been made about the WTC, and lets then ask should this one be made?.

1. United 93 (2006). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475276/

2. Flight 93 (a british documentry about flight 93, united 93 remade it into there version).

3. 11'09''01 - September 11 - (released in 2002) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328802/

4. Fahrenheit 9/11 - (released in 2004 michael moore is doing a sequel) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361596/

5. The Flight that Fought Back - (this is story is simular to flight 93, released in 2005 made for tv) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0470764/

6. 9/11 (2002) TV - (another documentry about september 11th, 2001) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312318/

7. DC: 9/11: Time of Crisis - (released in 2003 made for tv) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0353042/

8. Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in Our Times (released in 2002) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338357/

9. Sorry, Haters - (released in 2005) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425600/ - about september, 11th.

10. The Man Who Predicted 9/11 - (released in 2005) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482544/

11. 9/11: The Falling Man (TV) released in 2006
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810746/

Ok i give up making my point. There is a list of 11 movies, documentries and made for tv movies about 9/11-september 11th. Now i'll ask again, do we really need this one made?.

I found this website and i am a bit shocked by this.

Just browse through the website and its about these movies and why they are delayed from being released, guess what because there where scenes of the WTC in the movies and the studios removed them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...nt_affected_by_the_September_11,_2001_attacks

So, should we go and see this movie? how come these movies get made and released and these movies with scenes of the wtc get removed?.

Its hard to say really - depenRAB very much on the individual film and how sensitively made it is. But thats an objective thing so its hard to measure. I would guess that its something that the people who were affected that day are split on.. With many not wanting hollywood to keep rehashing this, and perhaps glorifying it. And I'm sure there are many others who feel that a well made movie is a fitting tribute to remember all the brave survivors, emergency people and victims of that day..

I would say that if there is risk of hurting people and opening up old wounRAB again then I don't think it should have been made. But then I'm obviously not a money hungry movie maker.

Since the movie has been made, speaking as someone who was there that day I would go to see it.

The reviews i've read so far are saying that oliver stone has created just as good a movie as flight 93 except with more emotional attachment to the characters

As others have said, it was inevitable that it would be made at some stage. That said, I won't be going to see it, just the same as I didn't go and see Flight 93 (I found the trailer for that upsetting and didn't really want to spend a couple of hours crying in the cinema).

United 93 was a fantastic film, the fact that all the familes of the victims on the plane supported it so much just goes to show how well the film portrayed the subject matter.

After seeing the trailer for WTC, I'm not sure I'll be going to see this film.

Looks awful.

I mean the tag line is 'The world saw evil that day'. Do people not want to look into why they were attacked rather than trying to come across as an innocent victim?!?

I think that it is a little too early for it to be made but I don't really have any opjections because its people choices whether they go and watch the film or not. I probably won't go and see because it doesnt really seem like my type of film

I saw the trailer for this in the cinema and really didnt like the look of it. I thought United 93 was a great film but this just looks like a Hollywood cash in on the terrible events of 9/11!

Ahem - ** Mr Cage is in The Wicker Man this month, and there is still a bit of a tiff going on in the Middle East,** so should I really give a toss as to how actors get their pay cheque over their edited performance, based on a directors view of how events unfolded on the day the US was shown that peace cannot be considered while there are still fundamental issues on who deals with the human aspect/views when it comes to running this planet ?

Has Condolisa Rice got world peace yet ? Is there some warranty process we can all sign up for and claim on if it fails to materialise in a specific time period ? (kudos to the many employees that perished within the Twin Towers working for companies dealing with insurance.)
