Film Vault

For what its worth ive dealt with filmvault in a business capacity for close to 10 years, the sudden death of a very decent guy has no doubt left them in disarray. They are a fantastically honest and fair company so anyone waiting, just be patient and ive got no doubt they will clear up anything at the first opportunity.

Totally agree, I think it was Steven I always dealt with over the phone, Great guy always chatty, I have no idea if he was the owner or just an employee. Still very sad.

nothing. no contact. no attempted deliveries.

what is starting to annoy me is that almost every time i emailed film vault i would get a reply from a different person. I reckon i have about 6-7 names plus the guy who answered the phones. So what i cant understand is that if the owner dies - why cant the remainder of the staff deal with the outstanding deals? It wouldnt take much to email or phone everyone concerned.

Now call me cynical but the bloke that used to answer the phone and also the bloke who recorded the telephone system menu were the same person. Also the person that has died I believe to also be a bloke.

Now if i were small company wanting to appear larger than I was then i would also put fictitious names and departments on correspondence too.

So as i see it - this guy has died and as such there is actually no one else left except maybe his unfortunate wife/partner to deal with the fallout. Hence all the problems.

All IMHO of course as its the only way i can explain what is happening.

Cynical Mode Off

Anyway i'm ****** off but theres nothing i can do about it. So will just have to see what happens

Seems really odd, Megant never replied to my PM! No reply from my email direct to FV...

Just the waiting game I guess, Hope you hear something soon

Hello everyone. Parcels have been returned to sender so most of you should receive your collections back. Please email me at [email protected] if anyone has any other queries and I will do what I can to help. Please provide a contact nuraber so I can call you. There is no one at the Film Vault and it will not be open anytime soon.

Any luck yet Chump? Just opened my box and there are several DVD's that have been smashed to pieces, One of them pretty rare. Obviously happened in transit back and forth being mauled by the courier company..Not good

I got an email from Megan who apparently is a family friend of the bloke who died saying the best she could do was pass my info on and hopefully someone would get back to me end of week / early next week.

I've lost all patience now. I'm giving them until Tuesday next week to get in touch. Then I'm either going to contact their local police station or go down the small claims route which I've done with success in the past.

I would say claim for your broken DVRAB with dpd but then I guess it would need input from film vault to initiate the claim of which you've got no chance

Interestingly I've done a bit more digging since I last posted and my suspicions were correct. The address he gives on his website for the industrial estate isn't valid. I managed to contact the company who lets the units and they say he hasnt been in one for years now and that he operated from his home address.

Just goes to prove never to believe what you see on the internet!

Been reading this one with interest guys as I was in the exact same boat. I do have my dvd's back now and have to say that I've been left with the exact same impression - somebody pretending that they were a bigger deal than what they really were.

Music Magpie it is!

Since it looks like Film Vault is gone for the time being, has anybody got any recommendations ?

I have looked at a few sites with varying degrees of what they will give for your DVRAB, but I worry about them keeping or reducing my DVRAB to the point of almost giving them away.

Really? Don't you read much on GC? That's by no stretch the nastiest comment on here, i agree it is indeed sad that the owner has died, but I can understand the frustration that many people must have to find that the DVRAB they sent to a seemingly reasonable large company are in fact a much, much smaller company that they are having great difficulties in getting there money or DVRAB back from.

I’m in exactly the same boat as chump. My DVD collection was picked up on 31st January and since then I have heard nothing; despite repeated e-mails and telephone calls.

Like chump; I will be contacting the police and trading standarRAB very soon. In fact; it may be a good idea if those of us in the same situation could co-ordinate our efforts.

I’m not sure what is offensive about colin1984’s post?

It seems obvious that the Film Vault operation was that of a one man band. If it wasn’t; I’m sure that we would have heard from other merabers of staff. After all; how long would it have taken Film Vault staff to send an e-mail out?

It would appear that Film Vault was a solo operation with the frienRAB and family either not knowing how to cope or deliberately choosing not to respond. The only other alternative is that this is a deliberate fraud and the comments regarding a death are a hoax; so that people will leave it as long as possible before contacting the authorities.

Drongo

Well i managed to track down Film Vaults accountants and gave them a call.

As predicted Stephen Cumming (the owner) ran the company alone. So all the emails received from Sharon, Tanya, Bill or whoever were all fictitious.

As a result his death means that there is no one else to run the company. The only people that are able to do this are his direct family.

The accountants have confirmed that his estate is now in probate. Unfortunately it means that until this has been finalised nothing more can be done to compensate those like myself that are waiting for compensation for my blu ray collection.

My only hope at the minute is that the family find time to return them to me or if not that the assets tied up in Film Vault cover any cases where collections cannot be returned. However i have been told that this can take months and months....

Either way i think it is just going to be a waiting game

I guess as it was a limited company i could go down the legal route but in all honesty i dont see this being any more fruitful or speedy than waiting.
