Film Previews

Not really sure whether to post this here or in the Advice section, but I thought I'd get better answers here.

I was talking to a friend outside the local Vue today when a man approached us and asked us if we wanted to go and see a free preview. He asked for our first names, told us to ring an (apparently) free 0800 number to confirm the reservations and gave us a piece of paper telling us the details, when where etc. The film is "Wild Child" starring Emma Roberts - I've looked and it is a genuine film.

I'm probably being paranoid but not really knowing how these things work I was just wondering if anyone could see any problems with the genuity of this - it seems OK because it's held in the Vue. It does say we have to leave phones with video capabilities in a holding area, but I'd assume that's ok.

Any help/ reassurance from people with more experience would be much appreciated - if it's in the wrong forum I can move it!

This happened to me years ago. I was walking down the Strand in London when a man stopped me and a work colleague and asked if we wanted to go to a film preview. It turned out to be Good Morning Vietnam which shows it really was a long time ago. It was held in a proper West End cinema and we were given questionnaires to fill in afterwarRAB (I said I thought it was too sentimental).

Quite surprised that they still do this, though. Maybe they want to be able to ensure the preview audience are the kind of people who would go and see the film?
 
I go to see quite a few free film previews through seefilmfirst.com, but the feedback you give is quite general so maybe they wanted more detailed feedback?
I went to see Lions for Lambs a few weeks back and we had to hand our phones over, they put them in a plastic back and give you a cloakroom ticket for claiming back after. :)
