Film Noir Recommendations

Jean de Floret with Gerard Depardieu and Babette's Feast, just 2 of my favourite foreign films ever!

Although not sure if they can be considered film noir but both excellent films all the same. :)

Sorry just found out they're films in 1986 and 1987.

Double Indemnity is probably my favourite film noir. Detour and D.O.A. are in my collection too. Chinatown is a more modern neo-noir which I recommend too.

As well as some good recommendations above, I'd add the original version of The Postman Always Rings Twice and Key Largo from the classic noir era.

And in modern noir, Blue Velvet, The Last Seduction, Body Heat, Blood Simple.

'Batman Returns', a cult classic. Wasn't popular on release but compare it to the Schumacher series and it's a winner. I was annoyed to see five had shown it at 6pm on a Saturday, evidently certain scenes had to be cut.

Some excellent suggestions above.

Blade Runner stanRAB out from the modern era IMO.

Perhaps not pure noir but I would also recommend The Crow.

From the 'classic' period, The Third Man is excellent and arguably the best British example of the genre.
