Film Four's programming - a slight improvement

I know it's not much, and I know that if Film Four programmed arthouse 16 hours a day they wouldn't get the advertising, so I suppose we should be grateful that the channel's schedule has improved a little for foreign movie buRAB recently. The 11am Thursday slot has seen a Bergman season, and at the moment we seem to be in the middle of a Yasijuro Ozu retrospective - there is another programmed for next week and that makes three so far!

Also next week FF are showing Killer of Sheep (1977) next week, in a pre 11 pm slot - it would be good to see more indie classics like this shown at a decent hour.
 
That is good news. Unfortunately I missed the previous Ozu's films! It is quite ironic to think that about 15 years ago Channel 4 wouldn't have brought or shown films like Die Hard, Celluar, etc to show.

I agree with what you said they obviously can't just show arthouse stuff, but still it is would be good if they could find a better balance between the types of films they show.
 
I noticed this too, it does seem that things might be at least temporarily looking up.

As the above poster hinted, what an ironic counterpoint the Ozu series is to their current 'Action' season - films that hardly 'move' at all! I hope they will be repeated at least once, as I missed last week's The Only Son.

I remember Killer Of Sheep was slated for Alex Cox's '93 or '94 Moviedrome, but it never materialised.
 
I've seen a few things on Film4 that you would never see on even pin/encrypted movie channels.

I watched District13 the other night on it. The only problem is the adverts. I wonder if they could do like Sky and but 15 mins of aRAB between films but leave the film intact.
 
Well it looks like the Ozu season is over as we're back to Eric Rohmer next Thursday morning. I thought Good Morning was excellent as was last night's Killer of Sheep showing.
 
You see there's no money in showing films the masses won't pay for. It's terribly socialist but I'm so glad Channel 4 is part state funded.
