Film Four For The Proles

Is there anyone else out there annoyed at Film Four pandering to the masses now they are a Freeview channel by changing their original policy and screening films in the wrong ratio.
I rarely subscribed to FF but when I did and a rarity turned up for burning to dvd you could always guarantee that FF would respect movie fans and show the movie correctly.
Now since its been free I don' t think I've seen a film at 2.35:1.
Just like BBC and ITV they show the credits scoped then zoom in to fill the screen for the proles who don't like borders.
Monte Carlo or Bust is unavailable on dvd but todays broadcast was in its incorrect ratio ,bar the credits so its a waste recording it.
Come on Film Four,if you are going to be different to the mass market tosh of BBC/ITV and to be seen as superior to the very low budget TCM,please show films in the right ratio

You get the complete image with the borders instead of stuff being cropped out. Plus you might get the borders if you put your TV's image properly but if you record it, there's a chance it'll playback as if you didn't change it.

they show very few films in 2.35x1 anyway, mostly foreign ones for the subtitles, and even fewer english language ones .....

they aren't a full spec film channel (as in showing films in their full aspect) anyway, never were, and never will be!

Didn't they use to show in the 'orginal' ratio?

It some cases it could just be a case that they didn't buy the print in the original ratio.

What a laughable comment?"Block off the picture" "add them anyway"--what is he talking about?
I like borders on 2.35:1 films because this means that up to 33% of the image has not been chopped off the sides?
If you like watching films with bits missing you're ok,because everyone bar Sky does it

As I said above, they always used to screen films in their correct ratio.
These days with new films made with tv/dvd in mind and the allocation of the TV SAFE area ,many films don't suffer when shown in 1.85:1 but anything from the mid 80's back that was made in 2.35:1 loses image if zoomed
