Film critics

Whats your general attitude toward film critics? i personally feel that they are very biased toward specifc filmm studios and directors. I also think that some crtics are more intot the art of films rather than the actual enternatinemet value.I have seen many a film panned by critics that have been very good. I think critics role should be changed to providers of information about films and not give their somewhat biased views. Sometimes their opinions can be off puttin and i have nearly not gone to some films that i have really enjoyed because of a review by a critic.

Jonathan Ross is funny though!

i think critics have a great job sit and watch films then review them, and i think they tend to criticise a lot just so we think their job isnt all that if they have to watch crap movies. They cant be seen to be enjoying themseleves to much now can they. Plus they get the feel important...

I usually go see the film and make my own mind up sod critics :). although they can be useful sometimes..

I hate film critics.... They seem to slate every movie they see. They pick faults in the best of movies. I never listen to them because for e.g. the slated Walking Tall and I thought that was a great movie. Go see movies for yourself, have your own opinion....

Mark Kermode has usually got something interesting to say, good point, but will he ever reach the heady heights of slightly trite film criticism for TV audiences achieved by the one and only Barry Norman?

I met Mark Kermode when I was doing some work down in London, as my cousin and her husband worked as critics, and knew him.

He's a really funny, intelligant guy and he's just as much of a sarcy bastard as he is in his writing and on TV. The best thing is, he knows everything about film, he's got an incredible knowledge on his subject, more so than anyone i've met.

Critics are supposed to criticise, as the name suggests, but they are not there to make your mind up, they are there to give their opinion and an idea on the film. It tenRAB to be people that struggle to find their own opinion that hate critics.

I'd have to ask them, but they never mentioned. If any of you read TimOut, my cousin's husband was the film editor there, Tom Charity, but he's moved to Canada now. My cousin used to write for their TV section, before moving onto The Mero and The Independant. Also, Tom is one of the main people behind Lovefilm.com.

Right enough linkage, whoever said they like Ross (either of them), they are not critics, they are presenters who do bits on film. There is a big difference, and as Paul Ross just writes nonsense to get his quotes on films, he should not be listened to, at all costs.
