File association in S60v3

Can you be more specific? Y-Browser lets you change the attributes of a file to read-only and similar and I believe there is another application available that lets you alter file extensions, but I don't remember what it is. Are either of those what you're trying to accomplish?

File association usually refers to which application will launch files of a certain type. For instance, you'd want an image viewer launching your JPG files and a text editor launching your TXT files, rather than having the web browser open them.

I'm curious myself. On my 6620, it seemed that the latest application installed would grab associations for certain file types, and I didn't have control over it, or at least didn't know how to control it.

Attributes has nothing to do with file association.

I have a video that I know smartmovie can play it but realplayer can't. I send that file to N80 via BT. After transfer is completed, I go into inbox to open the file, because realplayer is accociated with video files, the file is open in realplayer, but realplayer can't play it. I can't save it or play it unless I change the file association for video files.

If that be the case, I'd change the file extension on your PC and copy the file to your memory card via a card reader. Sending the file over BT will put it in your inbox and won't let you do anything with it if you can't open it, as you've mentioned.

There's three or four file browser applications out there right now, and I know at least one of them can change file extensions if you try to rename it. Y-Browser, SysExplorer, and SExplorer are the three I'm familiar with.

Changing file extension doesn't help.

I just remember the reason why I want to change file association. ^^"

I use N80 to download a video file that can open in smartmovie but can't open in realplayer.
