In August 2008 I too received a discectomy and laminectomy on the L4-L5 region. Upon follow up with the back specialist I advised him that 10 days post surgery i fell down a set of stairs and that 3 days after falling down the stairs I started experiencing pain and nurabness that was not present prior to the surgery. This alerted him which ultimately resulted in a further MMRI on Deceraber 1st. Just got back my results today and from the technical findings advise I have "enhancing fibrosis associated with the right sided laminectomy and adjacent prior disc removal". I spoke to my GP today and he advises that the fibrosis (scar tissue) is inducing more pain then what I felt prior to the surgery and often leaRAB to what medical professions like to call failed back syndrome. I do not go visit the back specialist until Tuesday and thanks to all your posts and a little internet research I will be addressing all the questions that have been left in the posts. I still have questions remaining regarding a L3-L4 level herniation that has been left untreated but remains unchanged between MMRIs from July 28th to Deceraber 1st

I will most definitely be looking at best possible solutions for treatment as I have now been in constant pain from June 2008.

I got to ask has anyone heard of doing a possible treatment that corabines pentoxifylline (PTX) and Topopherol (Vitamin E)? Well some of the questions I bring with me to my appointment will include this one. I will follow up upon further visit with more answers from my specialist. Thanks a bunch!

I had a laminectomy in June of 07 due to a work related injury where I herniated L5-S1 with a large piece of free floating disc. I was pain free for about three weeks post op but have been in pain ever since. They have tried epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, TENS unit, physical therapy, etc. without success. My problem is scar tissue and permanent nerve damage. They tell me there is nothing they do for this because more surgery may just leave me with more scar tissue and it may be worse than it is now. So I take Vicoden for pain. I have recently tried acupuncture which has given me some relief. Good luck to you and please post after you see the surgeon.....I'll be very interested to hear if he has a solution. Take care.
