I spent the last year in Rotterdam. At one point, my teacher told me not to go out one evening because Ajax was going to be in town and it might get ugly if they win. (They did, but the police were out in force and I think there were no problems.)
My understanding is that instead of playing one game, these teams play two games: one in Amsterdam and one in Rotterdam. Feyenoord fans aren't supposed to go to the game in Amsterdam and vice versa.
I never learned how and whether this is enforced. Can anyone tell me? Also, if I've got the rules wrong I'd be happy if someone told me that too.
