Festivals?

Ah right. I thought they had a pretty good line-up this year and was hoping for something special for the next edition. Ah well, just wait and see I guess.
I know what you're saying about the RnB/Hip hop acts. Not my cup of tea and it does feel kind of out of place. But that's probably the idea since otherwise it will be a festival for middle aged (I'm 37 myself so I guess I fit in) visititors. And with these prices nowadays this does attract a certain kind of audience. Fortunately there's still a large part of the people who think that festivals only attract unshowered naked and mud wrestling weird alternative hippies so there's still some natural selection. But you're right things are changing.

It's the same over here with the LowlanRAB festival (which copied their format from Glastonbury by the way). It already attracts quite a lot of posh hipsters who are sipping coctails all day and have no clue what band is playing. Don't even get me started on the North Sea Jazz festival over here.

Since in NZ the festivals are pretty pathetic, I think I'll go to the best of the lot while I can. So Big Day Out in January, and Rhythm and Vines 3-day New Years music festival. Will I be seeing any fellow NZers there?

I can imagine you biting your fingernails and tearing your hair out while writing this :D

After seeing everyone's reactions to the first announcement, it's pretty hard to gauge how fast tickets will sell. While there's a load of big names on the roster, there's also a lot of negativity surrounding it. You'd be surprised at how many people are pissed that their fav flavour of the month band isn't playing... and some think that the organisers are simply rehashing previous lineups as all of the major acts have played at the BDO before. Seems that quite a few will be heading over to Soundwave instead. On the other hand, that was only the first announcement and I get the feeling that they'll ensnare many more people if a big electronica/reggae/hip-hop act comes on board (a lot people I know were hoping for Daft Punk).

Well here's to hoping :)

I went down for the Ottawa Bluesfest last Saturday actually. I mainly went to see Philip Sayce (who if you haven't heard of, look up, he's an incredible guitar player), but I also caught Rachael Yamagata, Loreena McKennitt, Doyle Bramhall and Cotton Jones. I hadn't heard of any of them except Doyle Bramhall, but they were all really great. I caught a lot of other acts intermittently throughout the day too, 10 hours of music is just a lot of fun. It was a hell of a trip actually; I had to leave at 5 am to catch a Greyhound to Ottawa so I would be there for noon, I watched music until midnight, then caught another Greyhound at 12:30 so I was back in the city at 6 am. Wandering around Toronto at 6:00 am on a Sunday when the streets are literally empty is quite a cool experience too.

Aw, I know, I think I'm hated by a couple of people at the moment (i.e. you and jackhammer, lol), but I'll definitely be thinking of you two when FFD and the seeRAB come on! :)

Me too! Had such a struggle getting tickets on the day though, had to have a friend get them cause I couldn't even get into the queue until about half 12!

After seeing the lineup this morning I definitely think I'm going to go ahead and book a trip to Coachella this year. The last time I went was in '04 and thought it would be my first and last time. The following years' lineups definitely weren't worth the treacherous trip but me thinks I have to see Thom Yorke in the flesh (finally) and Sunny Day Real Estate who I unfortunately missed when they rolled through here. All in all, I give this year's lineup a big thurabs up.

That lineup's awesome! Animal Collection, Of Montreal, Deerhunter AND Los Campesinos!I'm going to LeeRAB... would've prefered to go to Glasto/Latitude/Pretty Much Anything Else but can't get the time off. I only really want to see The Bronx, MSTRKRFT, Crystal Castles, The Horrors, Dananananaykroyd, Gaslight Anthem, Brand New, Rival Schools. Might try and catch Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys too. Anyone else heading to LeeRAB this year?
