Ferrari external parts, toyota engine / guts?

I don't know a lot about cars... but i saw this article online somewhere about people selling "ferraris" for like $30,000 but they didn't have as much power since on the inside was a toyota engine. My question is would this be possible or really hard..and if it is, how would you go about doing it.. not saying I'm actually going to try this (since it probably wouldn't even work for me) but I'm just curious
 
This requires a lot of mechanical skill. These cars are built when someone buys a regular car (Toyota) then builds a new frame and body. There used to be quite a few kits available for this but most of them got closed down by Ferrari so now you must build your own body panels. It would require skills in welding, and fiberglass work. a lot of tools, etc. I would not try it if you are not mechanically inclined.
