I'm seriously getting back into fencing, and need good fencing gear. I've looked around, but I'd like feedback from people who have used various products and can give their opinion as to their worth before I go sinking big money into it.
Shoes- I've worn my nikes in the past, but tear them up (of course). Before I drop $100 or so on a pair of fencing shoes, I want to know I'm getting something really good- very comfortable and able to take a beating, both from the epee and from shuffling, dragging, lunging, etc. Are the Adidas worth the extra $$$ or am I better off going with the $59 Absolute Fencing Elite II shoe?
I'd like a good deal on quality knickers- I've seen prices all over the place. I want something tough, but not astronomical in price. Same for the socks...
I have a jacket, but wouldn't mind another (front zipper), washable a plus- same with mask and gloves- 3 weapon would be ideal, though I understand they just changed it so you need an electric bib on the mask...
I'll probably be buying my weapons through the club armorer- he's able to get a better deal with discounts- plus I know who to go to if it falls apart...
What equipment has worked well for you? I wouldn't go out and buy the cheapest- but aside from that, is there something out there that's more expensive, but turns out to be junk so I can avoid it?
Note: I'm not sure about international competition at this stage, so FIE equipment isn't a must, unless it really is worth the extra money (do you get much extra quality/performance from FIE gear?). Thanks in advance!
