what could this be.....my husb is 38 and healthy-active and slender.
i'm worried that it could be a clot but it doesn't seem so symptomatically-not warmth, no pain no swelling...just tight from behind his knee down to his ankle.....he wants to play basketball this afternoon so it's clearly not taht bothersome but i read that IF it's a clot, exercise should NOT take place as it could move the clot somewhere else! please give me your input and experience.

This is why you need to see a doctor for a diagnosis because it could be so many things. I had this and everybody thought it was a herniated disk in my lower back. However, it turned out to be bone spurs. See a doctor. Get a diagnosis.

Without swelling, it's extremely unlikely he has a blood clot or anything else similarly dangerous. What exactly it is, I can't say. Does stretching help?

i agree with jane here on this,it really does NOT sound in any way like a clot would present. has he had ANY knee problem in the past, or even lower back issues of ANY kind? has he always been on the more athletic side doing alot with sports or just things that would or could create alot of wear and tear on his knees?

if he has regularly been a basketball player, one of the things that that particular sport creates is alot of more 'inner" movements with the knees? sudden stops and starts, movements to side to side. there could be something actually within that knee itself that could have just kind of 'worn out' or even caused some tearing in one of the many structures like ligaments and tendons in there too(very common types of injuries). this can just happen with age and wear and tear. i just went thru this with my R knee a few years ago.

i had no clue just how MUCH actual overuse injuries and plain old wear and tear injury i had inside that one little knee til i had an MRI done on it. this one thing, an MRI being done, would at least give an idea of what is or is not partly responsible for this 'perception" he is feeling there(when no actual swelling is present but that skin 'feels" tight anyway it is more 'perceptionary and more likely nerve related or cord). you just don't need or want your knees to become any type of a problem, trust me. it can severely impact your life in many many ways once your knees decide to go or break down on you becasue of injury or like i said, just age and repeated wear and tear stuff that just naturally occurs over time in our bodies.

i would just have him see his primary and let him evaluate the knee and the whole leg too and see what he wants to do here. but getting that MRI could explain why he is feeling what he is feeling. starting at that lumbar level of his back and then hitting the knee too really would be an ideal way to look at the more likely reasons/areas for what he is actually feeling there. this just does sound very much nerve related to some degree. its kind of a matter of finding where the nerve or nerves are actually being affected. good luck with this and please keep us posted, FB
