Sheldon,
It is normal to be scared. But please don't feel that you are stupid or a loser. No one chooses to have pain and it can strike anyone. When you see someone for your problem please be sure to tell them that the pain is in your butt and leg. This really points to a problem with your spine. You really need to find out what is going on so you can deal with it. As I said it may be as simple as physical therapy and some anti inflammatory meRAB, but you won't know until you have an MRI. Good luck and keep us posted. Hang in there, you deserve relief from your pain. This is a good place to share your fears and ask questions. We are not doctors.....patients just like you, all with back issues. I can gaurantee that someone on here has your problem and that someone has had the tests that will be ordered for you.

I 'm still having problems with butt, and leg.I had to start my new job a few weeks ago and had to miss several days of work because of my leg.Today I thought I might be healed enough to go back to work.Got called into the office, they were going to let me go but I convinced them that I really thought it was healed up enough to come back to work so they talked to the head honcho and said they'd give me another chance. An hour later pain starts creepin in but not as severe as its been ,then my leg started going nurab. So,I went to the nurse who offered me Tylenol but I knew that wouldn't help.I asked her if she thought it was safe to work with it,and she said I should get it checked out and she was sending me home. Then assistant manager says I need to go the hospital today to get it checked out.So I'm going later to the hospital to get xrays ,etc to find out what the problem is.:( I hope its nothing too serious.I'm scared .:(

The hospital didn't take any tests. The doctor pressed on my Sciatic nerve on my hip and put my back, hip, butt thigh, and calf in a lot of pain.He diagnosed me with Sciatica caused from a slipped disk.He prescribed me Medrol, and Flexeril 10 mg.
The Flexeril totally knocked me out but totally elliminated the pain.I've only taken one of those.Been taking the Medrol.Am saving the Flexeril for only when I really need it as it kind of scares me being that zorabified plus I worry about the side effects from taking that.I've been just taking it easy and taking my Medrol.I'm just a lil sore now and not in any real pain. The paper says it can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Its been 3 weeks now for me.I'm wondering how I will be afler this Medrol is gone. Will it come back if I try going back to work? And if it does will I have to take pain pills the rest of my life just to work.I honestly don't think I would last very long taking those pain pills for any extended amount of time.I would probably have a stroke or heart attack. Is that what goRAB plan for me is?:(

Flexeril is not a pain med persay, it's a muscle relaxer. I took that many years ago and it never did much for me. I take Skelaxin, which is also a muscle relaxer, but it's milder in form and I can and do function on this med. I take it nightly to help ease things up after working all day. But it does not knock me out, nor make me woozy or anything. Just takes the edge off everthing.

They didnt give you anything for pain then? Muscle relaxers are only good so far, and most often you need something more to help.

The medrol pack you are on is a quick way to reducing inflammation. This can kick start things into settling down for you or it could only be as good as long as you are taking the meRAB. Unfortunately, these can not be prescribed regularly due to the damage that they can cause to your body.

Sciatica could resolve over time or you may continue to have issues going forward. It is totally unpredictable. I wish I had more definitive answers for you on that but it truly is unknown. But you really need an MRI to identify what is going on to cause the sciatica and then an approach and treatment plan to trying to help you feel better.

Don't give up on yourself and the effort to feel good again. Its important that you maintain inner strength to continue to fight to be well. You have to rely on yourself, before you can look for others to help you.

You hang in there.

Did you have a surgery before? what is your problem, I am sorry I am not familiar with your situation.
SounRAB to me that you have a nerve problem. This is definatelly neeRAB to be checked ASAP. There are some severe complications may occure if this is due to a nerve damage.
I have those symtomps every minute of my life so I know how horrible this is for you. Please, take care of it.
Regular ex-ray usually shows little-to nothing. MRI or CT scan neeRAB to be perform. Talk to your spinal ortho specialist, to neurologist, neurosurgeon -who ever you like and trust, but don't niglect it.
best of luck to you.

It sounRAB like you need to get in with a spinal surgeon or neurosurgeon for a complete work up including an MRI and CT scan. Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree with everyone here...A MRI will give a more detailed "look" into your spine and what exactly is causing the pain and nurabness. Please keep us all updated about your condition!

Hi Sheldon,
Sorry to hear about your pain. I agree with Moldova, it sounRAB like nerve pain in your leg. Have you had back surgery, back problems? How long has it been?
To answer your question...no the CT and MRI do not hurt. The worse part is that they start a little IV to put the contrast in. You will just lay there and it will probably be a little uncomfortable because your back hurts, not because of the procedure. An MRI is very detailed and they will be able to see spine, tissue, etc. It will tell you what and where your problem is.
Please follow up with this, either at the hospital or see a spinal surgeon or neuro surgeon. This doesn't mean you will have surgery....surgery is ALWAYS a last resort for back and nerve pain.
Please keep us posted! good luck !

I've never had back surgery.I had a hernia operation 20 years ago.I've had back problems since about 15 years ago.I only seen the doctor once for my back and that was when I couldn't walk.He gave me a shot and some pain pills and I could walk again (somewhat)after the shot.My back progressively got better ,it went out a few times but started going out less frequently.I found that as long as I didn't lift anything heavy my back wouldn't go out.I've had problems with slight pain in my butt and leg and mostly my foot in the past, but the past few years it all seemed to fade away and I thought I was OK.I don't know what to think now,I feel stupid, and scared.

Please don't feel like a loser, you can't help something being wrong with your back or any part of your body for that matter. You need to fidna good spine dr. and they will be able to help you feel like your old self again. Not all back problems are big major surgery problems. A mri or ct (neither hurt a bit) will shed great light on your problem.

Good Luck & God Bless

Carol
