I've been on Nexium for about 1 year now. I took it in the past but then the DR switched me to pantaprazol (sp) and then Back on nexium again *sigh* I had another post on here about abdominal pain and full feeling stomach.*
I ran out of my nexium and since my husband has surgery (urablical hernia) I didn't get the chance to get it refilled till yesterday. Funny thing is that when I didn't Take the nexium I didn't Have any stomach pains! My heart burn and reflux came back though :( but I found it so weird that I didn't get that crampy burning pain below my left middle ribs like when I Take the nexium.
I started back on the nexium today just to see if I was right and Yep. By this afternoon the pains were back! :dizzy: I have an appt with a new Gastro Dr in 2 weeks so i'm going to see what he says about that. I would Love to go Off it forever! If I thought that some over the counter med would work i'd try it.

Similar thing happened to me. I've been experiencing some stomach issues for the past few months. Was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and reflux based just on my symptoms. I was prescribed Nexium which I took for a month. After I stopped Nexium some of the symptoms I had have subsided or are less bothersome. When I had my first appt. with a gastro doc the other day, and told her about feeling better after stopping the Nexium, she said that PPIs will sometimes cause stomach pain which was weird to me because that is part of the reason I was taking it in the first place. I'm still having abdominal tenderness and aching around the sternum area but not having as much burping or abdominal discomfort as I was when taking Nexium.

Sorry you're having problems too. it's just so weird that a PPI that is supposed to Help is causing More problems then helping. I am looking forward to my first Gastro appt next monday to see what he says.

Ask Your Doctor for Kapidex. It does not work right away it might take a few weeks but it's great. He can also give you a coupon that will take a lot of money off the price not just once but every month. This acid reflux is nothing to take lightly. Mine has progressed to the point to where my vegas nerve is partially paralyed, which means my stomach does not empty out properly and even my esphagiitis does not work properly. You mentioned feeling full and this is a symptom. Although they still are not sure if acid reflux is the exact cause of vegas nerve damage.

I dont' know Jonnstar. I've basically only tried pepcid over the counter and it didn't do jack for my heartburn. I've thought about trying that new previcid. to see how it works.

I have short-segment Barrett's and GERD. I had been on Nexium for six years and my new GI doc discontinued me off of it because I had multiple gastric polyps and bad gastritis on last endoscopy. I was also so stiff that I could barely get up out of bed in the morning, and I walked like I was old because my feet hurt so bad. I also have developed osteopenia. (I'm only 38-years-old). My doctor told me to get off Nexium and to start an H2 blocker (Pepcid 20 mg three times a day) along with a strict GERD diet. I'm in my fifth day and the Pepcid seems to be working 80% of the time. The other 20% of the time (usually in mid-afternoon), I burp up gas and feel mild heartburn. I am able to take two simethecone (antigas) and one Tums (antacid), and it takes care of the problem. I can tell you that within 24 hours of discontinuing the Nexium, the stiffness went away completely and I was able to resume my normal exercise and daily activities. I think the Nexium and body stiffness/pain was connected.
