Feeding wild birds in the garden?

Our jolly neighbour complained about our feeding birds in the garden, mostly because the odd pidgeon deceided to call which is fair enough as they are bigger than ducks! Anyways, we reduced the feed to just 2 slices of brown bread a day first thing in the morning and have put up a feeder for seeds which hopefully would stop the largest birds bothering - this hasnt made him happy of course and he still whinges over it. Now, suddenly, not a single birds has visited us for days! The bread goes uneaten (pity as the mice love it grr) and our house bound show cats dont get theyre daily entertainment of bird watching.
Is there some kind of sonic device which can scare them all off? Hes spent months doin what we call the birdy dance, clapping and shooing away any that come near hes beloved wall or roof but now....nothing.
Find it totally spooky! They totally avoid the area of our house and hes now.
