Fee HD channels

buy your 9200 reciever from future shop because its 50 dollars cheaper there than at bell world
 
I'm getting a HD receiver for Christmas to replace the current 4100 i have, and i did some searching but i cant really find a proper answer. My question is, what channels are Free hd Channels. From my understanding, theres an HD value pack thats $10 a month. I most like'y will get that added later, but im just curious as to what HD channels i will get when i Buy the new HD unit. Also, whats the best place to get it from, calling into bell or visiting a bell world?

Lol i love this CSR's bias. *C currently markets 15 free hd channels. BEV has twice as many for $10 bucks. BEV doesnt have a bad deal at all especially if your new to HD and want to take the most in from the experience. I know *C has plans to move to 8spk which would create the possibility to add more HD channels as well. I'm not 100% sure if BEV was moving to MPEG4 or 8spk but I'm sure they have something in the works as well to expand their HD lineup.

The biggest thing I dont like about BEV is contracts. I was looking to sign up with Bell a while back as my dad was with them and he wasnt under contract or anything b/c he was a customer before the era of contracts and TV came out. Anyways I felt *C was more risk free in the end because of no contracts and I'd suck it up to wait until a better HD line-up came out. Besides whatever you get on HD you basically get on SD anyways. Just not as great as a super sharp addicting picture.
 
Every HD channel on BEV costs money, literally. You must subsribe to existing theme pack(s) that includes the channels you want in HD. Let's say you want TSN HD, then you must subscribe to "Sports 1" theme pack first since TSN is under this theme pack

No free HD you need to subscribe - if you are looking for free HD you may want to look at other carriers
 
technically you should be able to get cbchd and both east & west ctvhd since they are included in the digital standard pack.
 
You are right...there are a few free HD channels without having to pay. CBC/CTV/SRC are free, including any free previews, and the preview channel on 829. So for $27, you can have all of that in the Digital Standard. Add $10 for the remaining HD channels for a total of $37.

Your other option is Starchoice, which is $34 for the Bronze pack. That's pretty much like the Digital Standard, but with their collection of so-called free HD channels. Add another $5 for A&EHD and DiscoveryHD and you have a total of $39 for Basics and HD. Oh yeah, you get a clock on the front too.

Just curious but why are you buying a HD receiver if your not going to subscribe to HD programming? :confused: Do you have a widescreen TV or getting one in the near future perhaps?
 
CityTVHD east and west?

Am I missing something on my guide? I know there is CityTV East but what channels is west version?

For a list of the Rogers "free" HD channels, see the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Rogers HD offering". There are currently 15-20 "free" HD channels.
 
As far as I know, Rogers charges the $2.99 digital fee if you have any type of digital box. Once per household, not per box. After that, there are no additional charges for the "Free" HD channels with Rogers that I'm aware of. I just switched my SD PVR to an HD PVR with Rogers, and did not see any access fees or service charges aside from the aforementioned $2.99 which I was already paying. I'm still fairly new to HD, so if I'm wrong, I'd appreciate someone filling me in. Thanks!
 
sorry people, but nothing in life is free...sure, starchoice has "free" HD channels, but they don't have many to choose from, and rumour has it they will start charging $9/month next year for them...and rogers gives some for "free" as well, but charge system access fees and other service charges, so they get their money that way too...it's all marketing and perception...sure, bell charges $10, but at least they offer the most channels, and have plans to add a ton more next year.
 
A question, what is the present capacity of BEV to add HD channels? And what is the number of channels before going to 8psk or MPEG4?
 
Mabie i wasnt very clear lol, when i say free i meant what HD channels are free with the digital basic, news and learning 1, sports 1 and 2,lifestyle 1,variety 3, and the Movie package??

I want to see the "Free" HD conent before i decide to pay $10 for the extra.

Im already a subsciber to bell, so im confused on were i should get the HD unit from. Bell world, or call in and get them to fed-ex me one.
and BTW, to answer some one's question i already have an HDTV ( got it about a month ago)

Rogers gives some HD for free, but charges an extra $6 if you want the rest...add that to the $3 "digital service" fee, and you are pretty much at the $10 Bell charges for its HD channels...not too mention, Rogers HD PVR rental is $5 more/month than Bell's is, and isn't as good.
 
The Rogers PVR can be purchased for $499, $450 with coupon occasionally (no commitment). Also the "isn't as good" remark is subjective. The SA8300HD has several features like:

- Passthrough of formats
- SATA port for external HDD
- 7 day IPG
- Etc.

The BEV 9200 has several features that the SA doesn't as well.

This should not turn into a Rogers vs BEV thread, we already have a few of those, but I could not let the comment stand as is.
 
You should at least get CTV (Digital Standard), CBC (Digital Standard), SRC (Digital Standard), TSN (Sports 1), RSN (Sports 1), RaptorsTV HD (Sports 2), TMN HD (Premium Movies) and MoviePixHD (Premium Movies). Not sure about Discovery HD though, I tought it came free when you subscribe to the SD version but it's not clear according to the brochure...
 
It's 851. When I first subscribed, I too did not have that channel. There was a mixup with the programming sent to my 9200. Had to call twice before they set it up correctly(had to do a hard reboot both times). Probably a good idea to give them a call. good luck
