Federal law enforcement question-ICE vs DEA?

Which agency has more "field action" compared to desk time. And how exciting is that action? Do either of these agencies have to be "on-call" at all? Also do they have to travel somewhere unexpectedly? In your opinion, which agency would you rather work for? And for the agency you choose, what would be the best area to work at? Also for ICE what would be the best division to work for too.(financial crime, cyber crime, narcotics, etc.). Any other info on them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Working for ICE or the DEA is not about "field action" and excitement and sudden trips out of town. That is not why people choose to work for these agencies.

The agents of both are burdened by far too much paperwork. Remember: it's the federal government.

You don't choose what agency you work for. They choose you. Once you are cleared for agent training, the agency will decide what area, what division, and what geographic area you work in. The decisions are made based on background, education, proclivities, interests and talent.

ICE and the DEA play things close to their respective vests. This leads to a lot of intrigue and romance, which leads to questions like yours. There aren't a lot of details about life in either agency, so we fantasize based on what little information we get from books and movies, most of which is not reality-based.

It's not like playing Good Guys/Bad Guys when you're a kid. It's the big time, serious business and "excitement" is not an issue.
