Fawlty Towers

The best thing about Fawlty Towers is that anyone who's ever worked in a customer service based role can totally empathise with Basil.

It's unsurpassed.

"Well perhaps you should consider moving to a hotel closer to the sea, preferably in it."

"Don't mention the war! I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it!"

cant believe no one has said about the bit where Basil is checking the walls when he was trying to find out who was in that persons room.

Also:

Basil: "RIGHT GAMES UP!
Guest: Eh?
Basil: Game pie stuck up there above the door :D

That's possibly my favourite line in the whole series. The way he steps forward, says the first bit and then pauses slightly, it seems that he's about to give an impassioned grand speech stoutly defending Fawlty and the hotel, then he pipes up with the second bit :D

Got so many. Heres one to start with!

The Germans.

Basil in hosptial.
Nurse telling Basil off.
Basil : (looks around room and under bed) I'm sorry, are you talking to me, I thought there was a dog in here.
Nurse then helps Basil and he peers close to her face.
Basil : My god, you're ugly, aren't you?
Nurse : I'll erm get the doctor.
Basil : You need a plastic surgeon, dear, not a doctor!
Sybil : Basil!

It always gets me about how people destroy Basil's character despite that fact that Sybil, for me, is actually much worse - but she gets sympathy.

She is possibly as big a snob as Basil (it's close) but she is lazy (she gets Basil to do plenty of work, never seen doing any herself) and generally nasty to him. He is often nice to people, tries to guide Manuel, and does his best to look after the guests - until they upset him.

I don't see any such redeeming features in Sybil.

I think that's why Basil works so well.

Basil to nurse:

MY GOD YOUR UGLY AREN'T YOU?

Nurse:

I'LL GET A DOCTOR

Basil:

YOU NEED A PLASTIC SURGEON DEAR NOT A DOCTOR

LOL, great minRAB think alike eh?:D

Communication problems is my favourite. Joan Sanderson plays deaf so well and the rest of the casts reactions to her deafness are equally as good. As a one off performance its gold really.

Just thought of another good one from 'Waldorf Salad'.

The American hasa just said that Fawlty Towers is the worst hotel in England and the Major says: 'No, I'm not having that...there's a place in Eastbourne!'.

Interesting point. I was just thinking about the sequence where Basil has organised a surprise anniversary party, but Sybil thinks he's forgotten. She's utterly herartbroken by it, while Basil goes to ridiculous lengths to try to convince their frienRAB that all is well.

Despite everything, they love each other.

The Germans - the whole fire alarm scene from start to finish is absoloutely hilarious!
Too many superb quotes in that scene to list them all!
