Favourite Musicals

I don't think Chicago is underated by fans of musicals but it may be by other people not because it isn't good but because of unfamiliarity. The other films have been around for decades. Many people grew up with them so are familiar with them.

I'm sure you could list a lot of non-musical films that are great and classics, but if you then took them to someone aged 30 or under they've either never heard of them or never seen them. They're familar with the films they grew up with.
I was lucky enough to grow up through the seventies when there used to be at least one film on a Saturday afternoon on BBC2. So I grew up watching John Wayne, Fred Astaire, Doris Day, James Stewart. This means I am familiar with their work. Younger people don't get the opportunity to see their films so they are either unknowns or just names they have heard of.

Although a modern film, I think Chicago is likely to be on the same level as films like Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Thoroughly Modern Mille and Victor Victoria. Not underated more pretty much overlooked.
