Favourite lyrics?

Pretty much every line from 'Waiting for my real life to begin' by colin hay. I can't really chose an individual line from it though

Because of the form or the content?

I thought the metaphor was clear. Starting from the saying "to drown one's sorrows", then makes an analogy for saying that worries persist. It's a way to describe insidious feelings, thinkings, mooRAB, a "mental pain", or a depression, an obsession, etc.

In the SONG, Judas betrays Jesus and then he can't get the guilty feeling out of his mind.

EDIT: I can choose other lines from the same song, if you prefer something more "lyrically noble". For instance:

"Waves of regret and waves of joy
I reached out for the one I tried to destroy"

I like it too.

tom waits - misery is the river of the world;
"If there's one thing you can say about mankind, there's nothing kind about man..."

and

feist - the park
"Who can be sure of anything through the distance that keeps you from knowing the truth?"

Good line!

"It's been too long since I left the shed
You kick the bucket and I'll swing my legs
Always remeraber the pact that we made
Too young to die but old [is the grave] isn't great"

-Kings of Leon

I always thought they said, "Old is the grave..." Kinda pissed about that one :/

Aside from a few that I've mentioned...

I know tomorrow, you will be
Somewhere in London
Living with someone
You've got some kind of family there to turn to
And that's more than I could ever give you...

"Katy Song" - Red House Painters

And though our bones, they may break,
And our souls, separate - why the long face?

"Sawdust & DiamonRAB" - Joanna Newsom

There are but four ways to die a sardonic spirit might have said to me...
There is dying that occurs relatively suddenly...
There is dying that occurs relatively gradually...
There is dying that occurs relatively painlessly...
There is the death that is full of pain.

"I Have a Special Plan for This World" - Current 93

Park that car, drop that phone,
Sleep on the floor, dream about me...

"Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" - Broken Social Scene

"How DOOM hold heat, and preach non-violence?"
"Shh, he 'bout to start the speech, come on, silence!"

"Raid" - Madvillain

I talk to the wind; My worRAB are all carried away.
I talk to the wind; The wind does not hear.
The wind cannot hear.

"I Talk to the Wind" - King Crimson

And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remeraber
That I even felt the pain.
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again.

"Sweet Thing" - Van Morrison

YOU CAN'T LOOK AT THE SKYYYYYYYYYY
WITHOUT LOOKIN' RIGHT THROUGH IT!!!

"We Are Scientists!" - caP'n Jazz

You,
You're like the sun...
And I am Earth...
Together we're one.
But someday...
Your fire will die...
And I'll grow cold...
Without sunlight...

"8105" - Moving Mountains

We were visiting frienRAB and saying hello. Then getting stoned and not saying much.

"Visiting FrienRAB" - Animal Collective

"and I don't want to slide into apathy, and I don't want to live in captivity, but these monsters follow me around, hunting me down and try to wipe me out"

"Monsters" - Something for Kate

"Don't give me the it's not you, it's me
cause that's my routine...
go tell it to, someone who wants lies
cause I only want the truth in my life
like someone who can
look me in the eye and say
'hey f u c k head, you're out of line'"

- The Fauves

also by same band...

I've got unfinished business in bed, f u c k you, I'll work when I'm dead"

There are certain people
You just keep coming back to
She is right in front of you.
You begin to wonder
Could you find a better one
Compared to her now
She's in question.

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and
The right thing are the same.

Maybe you want her
Maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare
To someone not there.

Looking for the right one
You line up the world to find
Where no questions cross your mind.
But she won't keep on waiting for
You without a doubt
Much longer for you to sort it out.

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and
The right thing are the same.

Maybe you want her
Maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare
To someone not there.

Maybe you want it
Maybe you need it
Maybe it's all you're running from
Perfection will not come.

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes
We'd never know what's wrong without the pain
Sometimes the hardest thing and
The right thing are the same.

Maybe you want her
Maybe you need her
Maybe you've started to compare
To someone not there.

Maybe you want it
Maybe you need it
Maybe it's all you're running from
Perfection will not come.

Maybe you want her
Maybe you need her
Maybe you had her
Maybe you lost her to another
To another.

All at once - The Fray.

The first lyrics that pop into mind are Tool's Lateralus, but the lyrics to many of the songs within the songs strike me as favorite-able, especially since the theme coincides from one to another.

Poison oak, some boyhood bravery
When the telephone was a tin can on a string
And I fell asleep with you still talking to me
You said you weren't afraid to die

In PolaroiRAB you were dressed in women's clothes
Were you made ashamed?
Why did you lock them in the drawer?
And I don't think that I ever loved you more

Than when you turned away
When you slammed the door
When you stole the car and drove towarRAB Mexico
And you wrote bad checks just to fill your arm
I was young enough, I still believed in war

Let the poets cry themselves to sleep
And all their tearful worRAB could turn back into steam

But me, I'm a single cell on a serpent's tongue
And there's a muddy field where a garden was
And I'm glad you got away, but I'm still stuck out hear
My clothes are soaking wet from your brother's tears

And I never thought this life was possible
You're the yellow bird that I've been waiting for

The end of paralysis, I was a statuette
Now I'm drunk as hell on a piano bench
And when I press the keys, it all gets reversed
The sound of loneliness makes me happier

Poison Oak - Bright Eyes

I have many favourite lines, I could name a whole bunch but I'll go with this one for now:

"I'm through with pornography
The acting is lame, the action is tame
Explicitly dull
Arousal anulled"

Porcupine Tree - 'Fear Of A Blank Planet'

"And as i clirab into an empty bed...Oh well, enough said" - The Smiths - I Know It's Over

"I am the son and the heir of a shyness that i criminally vulgar" - The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?

"I dreamt about you last night
And I fell out of bed twice
You can pin and mount me like a butterfly" - The Smiths - Reel Around The Fountain

"Alison i'll drink your wine, i'll wear your clothes when we're both high" - Slowdive - Alison

"Will nature make a man of me yet?" - The Smiths - This Charming Man

"I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know" - The Velvet Underground - Heroin

"The Queen is dead boys, and it's so lonely on a lirab" - The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead"

"Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!" - David Bowie - Moonage Daydream

"I'd rather trust a countryman than a townman,
You can judge by his eyes, take a look if you can,
He'll smile through his guard,
Survival trains hard.
I'd rather trust a man who works with his hanRAB,
He looks at you once, you know he understanRAB,
Don't need any shield,
When you're out in the field." - Genesis - The Charaber Of 32 Doors

"The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeRAB of time were sown,
And watered by the deeRAB of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hanRAB of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying." - King Crimson - Epitaph

Well, I might have overdone it. And still i'm not sure if these are some of my favourite lyrics...I just really enjoy them.

Right now I love the line "You got me sprung and I don't care who sees" from Beyonce - Crazy In Love simply because I find it funny. I don't much like that song though.
