Favourite lyrics?

I love so many of his lyrics but this one is definitely one of my favorites.

"Or you could substitute an ear
For an extra useless eye"
from Printhead by The Fall

"He's good-bad but he's not evil" from Leader of the Pack by The Shangri-Las

" I pray you learn to trust
have faith in both of us
and keep room in your heart for two "

Depeche Mode - Precious

I easily relate to this song that's rather dark in nature, but this specific line somehow fills it with hope.

it'll seem more like a song, and less like it's math, if you pull on my hair & bite me like that.
- bright eyes, pull my hair.

i can think of more "meaningful" lyrics but this one gives me goosebumps each & every time, and i'm not even a big bright eyes fan at all : )

"A doctor sitting next to me
he asked me how I feel
Not sure I understand his questioning"- Dream Theater's Octovarium.

It might not rhyme, but it makes you wonder about what it means to feel... The true question is "what do you feel." the true meaning of "how do you feel" is what makes this lyric so mysterious (and awesome)

Who sold you that line of crap?
It's only a matter of spite
I hope you get your money back
Cos I'm okay, I'm doin' alright
I'm just not quite all put together

You, in your godless condition
In your apartment at the foot of the hill
Don't comprehend I've no conviction
Change the world with your force of will
Make it so I feel all put together

And in a dream I was a pilot on a plane that's going down
Hoping to be anything but a burnt, dead scar left on the ground

Please offer your infinite patience
The director's yelling "cut" on the scene
Please ignore the things I say that don't make sense
Make it up so it's all neat and clean
A splendid little scene that's all put together

And in a dream I was a captain sinking with a ship of slaves
Just another piece of jetsam, lost out among the waves

No one deserves it and no one's got the effort to spend
Writing this story when everyone here knows the end

Sorry that you got the short straw
For all the endless nights at the bar
For the waiting rooms and the quiet halls
For knocking down your shooting star
Still, here we are, all put together...

"Your lips on my own when they printed "farewell" / Had never been soiled by the beverage of hell / But they come to me now with the bacchanal sign / But the lips that taste liquor, they taste so divine"

Skyclad - Which Is Why

Now some of us are weak, and some endure
And some people live their lives, with a violence that's pure and clean
But I saw a man cry once, down on his knees
In the corner of a darkened cell, and his pain meant nothing to me
But I was younger then, and young men never die
When I walked out in the sun, I was strong, clear minded,
and blind

I've always loved the lyrics to Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone, particularly the 4th verse:

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They

I have always loved this line from Pearl Jam's Black

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why, why, why
Can't it be, can't it be mine

I also love the chorus from Precious Things by Tori amos

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things let them break
Their hold over me

It's got me on my knees in a bathroom,
Praying to a God that I don't even believe in,
Well, dear Jesus, are you listening?
If this is the one chance that really matters,
Well, don't let me **** this up.
If you'd told me about all this when I was fifteen,
I never would have believed it.
-Against Me! Tonight We're Gonna Give 35%

Well my favorite lyrics ever are from Protest the Hero's Kezia, and Fortress. But a few of my particular favorites are...

("Turn Soonest to the Sea" from Kezia) "When you bled on the bed as you fed those expectations as a whore and not a human you erabraced with hesitiation the parameters of all you can be; not a mother not a sister not and aunt who's not subdued because dignity's not physical and your flesh means more then you"

("The Divine Suicide of K" from Kezia) "Ressurected to be killed and maybe born again, I'll always be Kezia so long as any hope remains"

("The Dissentience" from Fortress) "Somebody's little girl dreaming of the things she reaRAB, or the monsters in her bed who hacked her in to bloodmeat"

("Sequoia Throne" from Fortress) "We are still life in cold-blood and we feel nothing, hell-bent on heaven while our righteous men are stuffing corpses full of **** and faith"

I could go on for a long time with these albums...

Thoughtful godless men find God in them at the age of twenty-five
But in a year, death gains favor and they think themselves the more alive
You'll find them in the loose caboose where the pills are kept and stupid juice
This one has a sleeping wheel
This one has a willing noose
Onward and on to the enRAB of love, pricked vanity, habit and ruse
Onward and on to a premature silence where death finRAB too much use
Fifteen year old whores in training, eyes a-batting, arms a-flailing
This fire-fanning express
If you're on board, amazement follows fear and rounded by dismay
It takes a corner to the day after today which is a father's sorrow
Onward and on to the enRAB of meanness where kindness is the means of the earth
Onward and on, awakening finRAB us too sensual beings from birth
