Just wondering which are peoples favourite Anime Movies.

I have started watching all of Studio Ghibli's films and think they are brilliant. I am also getting Paprika soon.

I was just wondering what other people like and would recommend?

I'm going to go for the really obvious one which is "Spirited Away". It was just wow!

Although I was expecting it to be good anyway I just wasn't expecting it to be THAT good.

So yeah, "Spirited Away" wins for me hanRAB down:).

Edit:

I'm going to get "Grave of the Fireflies" next, I've heard it's brilliant:).

Although I've never heard of it before, IMDB agrees with whatever you've been told:

GOTFF is one of the most moving films ever made, live or animated. Don't expect anything fluffy or cuddly.

Oh and do watch it in the original Japanese, not the dreadful dubbed American.

I don't think these are movies but they were longer than the original series and i don't care if they're not because i still enjoyed them!!! :p:D

Love Hina Christmas Special
Love Hina: Spring Special

The other movies in here looked pretty dark so i thought i'd put in some romantic comedy!!!

I am collecting all of Ghibli's films, i love them so much. I haven't watched grave of the fireflies yet but i am looking forward to seeing it, i know its supposed to be brilliant.

What about other films not made by Ghibli?

Well as I said, avoid the English dub of Grave of the Fireflies at all costs. I cannot stress that enough.

As for non Ghibli, I have many, but my favourites would have to be Akira and Ninja Scroll. ;)

It's hard not to acknowledge thouse films, as they both pioneering examples of the Manga genre, and two of the the first adult-themed feature lengths I ever saw. Both have outstanding animation, especially Akira. The 2-disc DVD set with the remastered film along with a brand new English audio track is stunning.

Be careful to not come across the original non-remastered version of the film first, if you haven't seen it, because it was released on a standalone DVD. The picture is merely a little better than VHS, and the original English dub was always really confusing, which is why they recorded a new one and brought the dialogue into line with the original script, which was a huge improvement, and really quite good.

In no particular order, my favourites are:

Spirited Away
Ninja Scroll
Perfect Blue
Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal
Ghost in the Shell
Howl's Moving Castle
Street Fighter II (a couple of one-liners are just brilliant)
Wicked City
Monster City
Blood: The Last Vampire
X
City Hunter
Fist of the North Star

They're all very different, but all offer something unique. Never watch Detonator Orgun. Three hours of complete boredom, and bi-pedal battle tanks.

Studio Ghibli films are really the only ones I really enjoy. Outside of that the only one I really like so far is Akira(been made into a live action film for those who don't know).

Spirited Away is fantastic, beautiful animation and great story.

Just watched Grave of the Fireflies yesterday and Oh WOW so beautiful, powerful but

I won't spoil it, it was a fantastic film but you may need a tissue

I thought Akira was too complicated and very boring. It was a groundbreaker in some ways, but some people still go on about it. Compared to what else is out there now, it's nothing.

No pun intended on the "hanRAB down" comment, I'm sure. :D

"Hey! These belong to you!?!" (as he throws the man's own arms at him, and he tries to catch them - genius!)

I've also recently watched Paprika, its not a Ghibli film but still very good. Brilliant animation funny story, fantastic music and good characters. It can be a little confusing but it is a very fun film, wouldn't recommend for young though, i think it calls it a 15, probably about right, maybe more a 12 though.
