Favorite Tough Guy of Anime/Manga?

Over the course of any series. we'd come across these tough guys that join the protagonist in some war. Like their strength would stick out the most from the rest of the characters.

Some would also tend to tease the protagonist. They're like what I'd call; the "big brother" types. Which they would go outta their way, just to protect those they love. To the point where they almost get killed.

As the topic says, which's your favorite tough guy of anime/manga.

For me, I'd have to go with;

NORA: The Last Chronicle of Devildom's character; Bajee

His attitude's like that of a teenager or "big brother". Which he tenRAB to give Nora grief, due to that he hasn't seen him since the first volume. And that he wonders what "Nora-boy" 's been up to. Dispite him being 31 yrs old in human years.

Thread over.

But seriously now.

I guess one of my favorite "tough guys" is Hayato Gokudera from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. He fits more of the "bad boy" type since he doesn't really get along with anybody on the show that isn't Tsuna but he really does go out of his way to protect his Family. I also like the fact that while he does act crazy, he's actually the smartest one of the main guardians and unlike the others, developed most of his current moves by himself (everybody else learned their techniques from someone else or unlocked them or something).

I also like Armstrong from FMA because he's the only character I've seen in that archetype of "over-the-top manliness" that I actually enjoy watching.

He probably got it from Google. That's one of the first images of Kamina that come up.

But you can make them by yourself here.

Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin, for one. Gotta love 'im, and he actually stays in pace with the sword-swingers through the series, so, props for that.

And Piccolo from DBZ, of course. Always loved his interactions with Gohan, and, of course, he keeps pace with the Saiyans, too. I like him better as Goku's ex-villain rival than Vegeta, honestly.

Nuriko from Fushigi Yugi. Funny and tough.

Also, though he wasn't just a tagalong, Kikuchiyo from Samurai 7. I think he was the biggest help of all the samurai. Plus I'm a sucker for Sabat roles.

Seconded. Aside from just being tough, he's a tough guy with actual substance to him, which is far more than what I would have expected from a shounen manga (althought I would actually rank Hiko Seijiro just a tad bit over him, since even though his time in the series was short, he actually left a bigger impression on me than any other supporting-character in all of Rurouni Kenshin).

Well, then again, he's not the only one that I'd put in this category.

I also consider characters like Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho and Zoro from One Piece to be tough guy characters with a good deal of real substance to them that makes them stand out from the crowd of other generic tougy guy characters in shounen series, as they feel tough in their own unique ways (well, not exactly "unique," but they both still feel like their very own character, rather than one that's just following a completely typical formula, IMO).

However, as far as character who are "tough" and who are "guys" go, while not exactly being the best in terms of being the absolute "toughest" in this category, Eikichi Onizuka from Shounan Junai Gumi and Great Teacher Onizuka EASILY tops any other character that has been listed on this thread so far (well, at least the characters that I have actually seen before who have been listed here, anyways), for me, personally, for the simple reason that he's just a great character overall, who also just happens to be a tough guy (which is why I can actually list him down in this particular thread).

My pick would probably be Younger Toguro from YYH.

I have a hard time considering him anything other than a 'tough guy'...

And do I really need to point out why he's my pick? Even after death the guy is still a bad ass.

Hiei, not only does he remain tough, he's also quite funny and intelligent. His toughness isn't simple arrogance. He more than backs up what he says.

Not my favorite, but nonetheless I'm gonna cite Revy "Two HanRAB" simply because nobody has cited a chick yet.

Yeah, I realize the title says "guy," but there are plenty of anime chicks who are just as tough, so let's broaden this discussion.
