Favorite Sailor Moon villian henchmen gang

Since when were Queen Beryl's henchmen called the shitennou? I've never heard that name before. Anyway, I would definitely go with them. I always found it odd that Jadeite never met any of the others. Though, all four were shown in the same shot in a flasrabroadack.



You could say that about practically any season. For instance, the four sisters in R were extremely minor characters in the manga. I think they only lasted one issue, yet the anime gave them a large arc. The Amazoness Quartet had Sailor Senshi forms in the manga that were also ignored in the anime. The villains in the anime were generally much sillier than those in the manga, etc. Complaining that Sailor Stars isn't accurate to the manga is a little ridiculous considering that none of the seasons were accurate to the manga.
 
I'm not complaining because Stars wasn't accurate to tha manga. I'm complaining about the lengths the anime Stars went to in being different from the manga, such as giving Usagi and Seiya a relationship (despite Usagi and Mamoru's romance being on of THE central points of the series since day one) and flat out ignoring major characters (like Princess Kakyuu) in favor of more minor ones (like the Sailor Starlights), and giving the series a formula that simply did not work.
 
THANK YOU! The thing is though Classic through S kept a good majority of the manga elements while expanding upon them to fit the 30+ episode season the anime had. SuperS and Stars really went rouge with this concept. In fact the first 6 episodes of Stars were actually the anime trying to take all the concepts skipped in the SuperS portion of the manga and incorporate them into the anime verse (Hotaru aging, the Outers return). But overall the anime and manga were extremely different. Heck, I think the live action version AND the musicals both stuck closer to the dynamics of the manga.



You mean the formula it had from day one, and granted the series 4 more seasons. Yeah, that SO did not work. (this is sarcasm here!)

I'm willing to settle with you that Stars was the odd bird of the bunch because it did make a lot of changes to the anime standard. All the supporting cast (Naru, Umino, Usagi's family, Motoki, etc...) were just NOT in this season. The opening song was changed. The series took the "everybody is a Sailor Senshi" concept and ran it into the ground with the Phages.

BUT one point is that in both the manga and anime Mamoru had been killed off fairly early. Their relationship was NOT the central point of the Stars series, it was Usagi's personal growth. While the manga and anime took two different directions with it, it ended on the same point that Usagi's hope and love won out in the end. Just because we didn't get Sailor Cosmos in the anime version doesn't mean the entire anime season derailed into crap. It was still a good plot driven season and I do think that SOME of the filler was a little "blah" (I think SuperS handled filler far better)but there was enough going on that made Stars a good season and good way to end the anime. The manga's ending and message was more specific to how the manga handled things at that point. In the end they may have been similar series but the anime and manga were cultivated into different directions and the way they ended was a reflection of that. I do think the manga had superior storytelling but not to the point that it makes the anime seem inferior since the anime was on a different vibe from the start.

The formula being used wasn't bad; it was how they decided to use it. The Star Crystals made little sense in comparission to, say, pure hearts and dream mirrors.



And that is why it borabed in the ratings.



The ending was good in both versions. That doesn't change the fact that the season as a whole majorly sucked.

Now please, just drop the subject. This is a thread about villain groups, not seasons.
 
Weakest? Did you even watch SuperS? Well, probably not, as that season is unwatchable. Stars has the best action, the best animation, and the best music. Not to mention it broke the mold of repetitiveness Sailor Moon has gotten into after R ended.

BTW, arguing that Stars was not accurate to the manga is a moot point. After all, in Season 1, Serenity did not kill herself and destroy the moon kingdom. Nor did she gain her sword. Zoicite, Kunzite, Nephrite, and Jaedite were not Mamoru's generals. Queen Materia was pretty much nonexistant. Saturn had a bigger role in the manga than the anime gave her. Not to mention Kaori Nite was the boss of the Witches 5, but they did not appear until she was "dead." Mercury's personality was completely different between the two. Technically, when it comes down to it, the live action series was far closer to the manga than the anime was.
 
Of course I watched SuperS. It had the Amazon Trio and Quartet in it (my second favorite minion gangs after the Shittenou). Judging by that, I wouldn't call it unwatchable. Chibi Usa being annoying tenRAB to make fans forget about that seasons' good points.

And I'm sorry; I fail to see HOW the action, animation, and music was any better than previous seasons; and I especially fail to see how it broke the mold of repetitveness, as it was just another monster-of-the-week out to collect some random crap storyline. The only thing it did differently was featuring transvestite sailor senshi.



Sigh. Another lazy person who failed to read over my actual posts. I said that it doesn't need to follow the manga exactly. It just neeRAB to be faithful to the spirit of the original; and Stars was the least faithful of them all (guys can't be sailor senshi, no ifs, anRAB, or buts!) Naoko Takeuchi herself hated the season; IMO, if a creator of the series dislikes an adaptation, then it's likely a poor one.

The Shitennou ("Four Heavenly Kings") are their name in the manga. And in the manga, Jadeite did meet the others; he had one scene with Nephrite and Zoisite, and another, short one with just Nephrite. Jadeite might've known the others in the anime too but they were never brought into any of his episodes due to the possibility of the anime being cancelled after the 13the episode mark. That, and thee shitennou were overall much more connected with one another in the manga than in the anime.
 
Ye olde Death Phantom and the Black Moon Family. Their origin made little to no sense, especially in the anime (seriously, whoever thought it was a good idea to jam 1005+ years of continuity into three minutes of exposition in one episode without any attempt at a safety net neeRAB to be shot), but I think the whole "good people turned evil by Chaos"-angle Takeuchi-san had tried with Queen Metalia worked alot better with Death Phantom.

Also R has always been my favorite series, despite Chibi-usa and the somewhat crap Makai arc.
 
What Makai Arc? You mean the Makaiju Tree arc? I liked it all right myself (mainly because Alan and Ann were amusing) but yeah, past the first five or so episodes, it was somewhat crap (especially that stupid Moonlight Knight. Mamoru's derailment began with him.)
 
The Amazon Trio and Quartet were pretty much jokes. You couldn't take them seriously at all. I much preferred the first two seasons villains as they were generally serious and seemed to pose a real threat. You also have to consider that SuperS has more filler than any of the other series. I mean, how many filler episodes did the Amazon Trio get before anything happened in the plot? It must have been over half of the season. All the seasons have large spans of filler episodes, but SuperS really takes the cake.



Well, only the first series and Sailor Stars were given two cRAB in the complete bgm collection. The other three seasons only had one cd each, so there would appear to be more new music in Stars than most of the other seasons.





To be honest, I think the manga is pretty lousy. Most of the characters barely get any development compared to the anime. So, I really don't hold Naoko Takeuchi's opinion in very high regard.



Oh, so that's why Jadeite got 13 episodes with none of the other villains showing up. I've always wondered about that. Thanks for clearing that up.
 
I know. That's one of the reasons I liked them; they never took themselves too seriously. The other reason I liked them being that they entertained me much more than Kaolinite and Witches 5 did in the previous season.



You have a point there. The Amazon Trio did take up half the season with barely little plot relevance happening with their arc. What always bothered me was that it ALWAYS seemed to be Tigerseye who was taking on the missions more than the other two.



Barely any development compared to Usagi's maturity hitting the reset button every season, Minako becoming just as immature as Usagi, Makoto thinking everyone's her old boyfriend, and Mamoru being reduced to nothing more than Usagi's boring knight in shining armor? Not saying that the manga is better than the anime, but both versions do things better and worse depending on how you see it.

And why disregard the series creators' opinion just because you didn't like the manga? The anime wouldn't exist without Takeuchi creating the manga first, so I at least respect that and think she knows what she's talking about when she says stuff about the Stars anime doing stuff that probably shouldn't have been done and that men cannot be Sailor Senshi.
 
Um... how is that different from the manga? They were guys in the manga too. I should know, I had all 3 volumes Tokyo Pop released. And they WEREN'T men, they were women disguising themselves as men, totally different things.

Anyway, I don't agree with that statement. Just because the creator does not like something, does not mean it a fact. Naoko did very little in terms of developing her villians, as they were pretty much Monster of the Day themselves. Hell, I think they should do a new anime that is directly based on the manga, as it means we'll get through all 5 series within 50 episodes. :-) I would so enjoy that, especially since I got sick of listening to audio that came from a garbage can.
