I think it depenRAB on the context.
In this thread "old band" shud say "BanRAB started before '95".
But I guess "old" is rather used as another word for "obsolete".
Things from the past you don't like are "old", but some things are, like The Beatles to me for example, something new every day.
"Old" definitly got an negative connotation in our modern society.
