Favorite comedy/part-comedy superhero

While the Marvel and DC comics mean serious action (even though they have only a few comical moments), but since I am a little hooked on Darkwing Duck depsite the old videocassette release only having two episodes- what is your favorite comedy/part-comedy superhero?


One of my favorites alongside Darkwing Duck, for SpongeBob fans, it's Mermaidman and Barncle Boy. This Aquaman parody infilcts the cheese of the 60's Batman series with Adam West, and it makes fun in the SpongeBob way, especially in the post-movie/post-Hillenburg episodes, fanboyism. It's funny how they for the most part, don't do acts of action here due to their age and the plot comedy. Don't forget the low-budget use of the APM/NFL films track "The Lineman" by Sam Spence. Or the IJLSA (a subisdiary of Viacom!)


And don't forget the funny superhero spoofs in another Nicktoon, "The Fairly OddParents". This is thanks to in part of Butch Hartman's fanboyism and his Superman-like hair.


There are endless ones, but there is debate on how serious they can be, specfically "The Powerpuff Girls".
 
The Toxic Avenger (known in the animated version is the Toxic Crusader for some reason) is by far my favorite comedic superhero. For those who dont know, the character originates from a low-budget slasher movie which amazingly spawned a kid's cartoon in the early 90's (which in turned spawned my favorite childhood toyline next to the one based on Ghostbusters). The main hero, nicknamed Toxie, is a deformed, green monster in a ballerina dress, who is driven by an instinct to destroy evil, which he does by smashing bad guys up with a mop.

If you haven't seen the cartoon, you should check it out. It's a lot of fun even for an adult, as it mixes it's TMNT-esque cheesiness with a really absurd sense of humor.
 
I adore Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. Just the concept of elderly superheroes is funny. They're pathetic and way past their prime, but SpongeBob is just completely oblivious to that.

I'm not sure if they have a name, but they often use "POW"" and "WHAM!" type cards in MM&BB scenes. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Kind of like time cards, but with with action words. Anyway, I love the way use these, but with words such as "PROP!" and "LAME!"

There was a good moment in a fairly recent episode, where SpongeBob asked for their help, and they just carried on sitting motionless on a bench, followed by an "action" card reading "APATHY!"
 
I liked watching Dynomutt and Blue Falcon as a young kid, so I got a kick out of the Dexter's Laboratory episode where Dexter rebuilds Dynomutt into a gritty attack dog robot, because he found his goofiness cheesy and lame. That episode was a good critique of the "grim and gritty superheroes" trend of the 1990s.
 
How about Plastic Man? As far as I'm concerned, he's really meant to be a comedic character, as we saw in Ruby-Spears' Plastic Man series in the late 1970's. Plas even provides his own comic relief with his limitless quips, even if it annoys his boss, the Chief.
 
I liked Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy... including the opening to their TV show being a near-dead on take-off on the 60s Aquaman TV cartoon (being they're Aquaman and Aqualad mixed with Adam-West-Batman and Robin), down to the opening narration ("Mermaid Man.. fleet and forceful!"), the sharks/fish swimming toward the camera, and the throwing the water ball at the camera ending... :-p

I'll throw in Underdog as a childhood favorite... the 60s cartoon, not that live-action film...
 
Plastic Man is one of my favorite comedic superheroes. He has a reputation for stretch-and-squash comedy, morphs into almost anything, and can still capture bad guys.
 
Freakzoid, definitely. He was a superhero, and at the same time, (pardon the expression) freaking hilarious! He was more comedic than a superhero, but he was still a superhero (at least he tried).
 
Freakazoid is probably the best example of this. Managed to take on the villains while being over-the-top zanny too.

I'd also like to mention the Action League team from KaBlam. Their incompetence was always good for a laugh.
 
The Coon from South Park is funny, but didn't like him when he turned villain in the Coon and Friends trilogy.

Captain Hero from Drawn Together is a jerk, and I never liked him.

Beetlejuice's superhero persona of Superslob and Ultra Beetleman are funny.
