Favorite battles in anime/manga

Seconded. And expanded upon...

Gintoki vs. Bansai/Housen/Jiraia are all great fights, but they're also all slugfests, not so much on the swordplay. The Benizakura fight is just flat out gorgeous - it's well coreographed, beautifully animated and really showcases Gintoki's sworRABmanship. THIS is the fight that makes you realize that Gintoki is one of Jump's top dogs - and the other hero's are hard pressed to catch up with him. The other fights are good, but they mostly just illustrate Gintoki's freakish strength, Benizakura has finesse. After watching this fight, no Bleach fight could hold my attention. Gin-san doesn't need bankai to kick your ass! XD

Vash vs. Knives (anime)
I have long considered this one of the best gunfights ever. It's intesnse, it's well executed and it shows the power gap between Vash and Knives.

Wolfwood vs. Livio (Trigun Maximum manga)
I think someone already said this one too. Brutal, emotional, and beautifully drawn fight. If it's ever animated I'll probably be teetering on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Ikkaku vs. What's his face-car
This is the only Bleach fight that has held up post Benizakura. Beautifully executed by Perriot not-on-crack. It has the emotional impact, the choreography and the badassery of a good stew. Fights are stews. They are thick and chunky and made of win. XD

I want to put the final battle of ZoiRAB: Chaotic century here but I honestly can't remeraber much about the fight, beyond that it was awesome.

That's not just one of the best battles ever though, that's the best episode in a gundam show ever. The badassery of Norris, taking on 6 machines unsupported, three of those gundams and with half his ammo already depleted. Take a seat Raraba Rall, Step back Aznable with your silly Red Zaku and your vaunted Newtype powers and let the grissled veteran show you how it's done!

Well but Norris isn't a newtype at all and totally pwns the bejesus out of the 08th ms team.

Sure Char was fighting a newtype in a Gundam, but he was only ever fighting 1 gundam, not three and he rarely even caused any significant damage to the Gundam's support units, whereas Norris, Badass that he is, destroys all three Gun-tanks in one sortie without artillery or ground sonar support.

That's probably what makes the Norris battle so badass when you think about it, is that he had to navigate the city and try to make them trip themselves up without any kind of reconaisance assistance, where the 08th team had thier seizmographic sonar truck directing them.

In short, Captain Norris wins my 'Biggest badass of the UC Gundamverse' award.

Char was fighting essentially 3 newtypes. Remeraber Hayate and Kai are also one. And he wasn't fighting the Gundam seriously until Amuro killed Lalah, remeraber? He was too busy backstabbing the Zabi family. Technically, he could've destroyed White Base way back in New York.

Second, it's a Zaku with a machine gun against 3 Luna-titanium units (Impervious to non-beam weapons.) The [G] Gundams and MP Tanks are made of the usual regular titanium.

I'm not disagreeing that Norris is a badass, but Char had far more to deal with.

And I don't see Bleach having an arc about popularity polls either!

I must say that while many of the big fights in the big 3, as well as their godfather Dragon( )Ball, have been great in both the anime and manga, this fight, as well as the fights in both the Yoshiwara arcs in the anime (I haven't read those arcs in the manga) are some of the best shonen fights I've ever seen, which is only more amazing when you consider how hilarious the series can be at other times.

To be fair, Shiro and gang are using glorified GMs, and aren't exactly ace pilots. Looking back, you have to wonder how it is Norris lost that battle, considering the big black sword and epic music he had going for him. Seriously, the epic music never fails.

...and yet, here, it did.

*Salutes*

Shiro had the power of LOVE!

Or courage, I dunno. He summoned Gaogaigar? He tried to Rocket Punch, but it failed so he used his arm as a bat instead.

And Shiro's an ace. He took out a Zaku with a Ball. That's instant ace points.

That reminRAB me of a Crossbone Gundam chapter where a pilot put a Gundam face on his Ball, which single-handily took out an elite Dom squad, weakened the defenses of A Baoa Qu, and forced the production of the Zeong to corabat the "Giant Gundam" when they judged from only seeing the head (Ball.)

Yeah, Tomino loves Balls.

ZoiRAB:
Bit vs. Vega
Van vs. Raven (final fight in CC)

Rurouni Kenshin
Kenshin vs. Aoshi II
Sano vs. Anji

Bleach
Ichigo vs. Kenpachi

Inuyasha:
Inuyasha vs. Bankotsu. Both fights were awesome.

Yu-Gi-Oh!
Yugi vs. Kaiba - Battle City
Yami Bakura vs. Yami Marik

Pokemon:
Ash vs. Gary Johto League

DragonBall's Goku vs. Piccolo Jr. I've seen the DBZ battles first, and perhaps I'm choosing this in just a historical stance, but as the first adult Goku battle it still works with its memorable moments (Piccolo growing in size and blowing up the Tournament; the cast taking cover with Lunch capping her final appearance with kicking Kami-Sama; Goku's paralyzed body knocking Piccolo down).

Sailor Moon's Sailor Senshi vs. Queen Beryl. To me, the creme of the 'Let's corabine our power to fight the big bad!' resolutions. And yes, I admit preferring the dub version with 'Carry On!"

Tenchi Muyo in Love's Tenchi Family vs. Kain. Everything from spiking the Fudo shrines to Kain's destruction. Epic! Christopher Franke's music. Epic! Achika rescuing Nobuyuki and powering-up ("I have had enough of this! I shall pay you back! Because Forgiveness, for one such as you, can never be an option!") Epic! The Tenchi Triangle suiting-up. Epic! The Dimensional Cannon. Epic!

El-Hazard OVA1 Dance of the Priestess/Defeat of the Priestess. Good blend of music and visual as the three sages face off against the Bugrom to Seiko Nagaoka's epic music. Their second battle, where they get OWNED by Ifurita, is also grand.

Digimon Frontier's Koji and Kuoichi's final battle. To me, the entire Duskmon saga, beginning with said Digimon whispering 'K-Koji?' and climaxing with this fight, belongs with the best Digimon storylines. Poor Kouichi, being torn between good and evil, either accepting things or unleashing his rage on the one responsible. Poor Koji, finding out the truth-
My mother...alive?
- hesitant about continuing the fight until Takuya talks sense into him. Powerful story.

Naruto's Title character vs. Gaara. The two lonely demon-children fight it off, nurture vs. nature.

Project A-ko's Title character vs. B-ko. Wrecking the school, interrupting an alien invasion. 'Akiyama missiles!'

Gundam Seed's Battle of Panama. Exciting drama of military corruption, escape, and rescue (with a cool song)

Rurouni Kenshin (manga) Aoshi vs. Gein. Supporting character/ex-villain coming to the rescue and capping things by facing off a major villain.

Hajime no Ippo

Ippo Makunouchi vs. Eiji Date

The young fast rising challenger vs. the aging champion. This fight almost had me in tears. And not because it was Ippo's first loss, but simply the emotion behind it. Ippo realized first hand what it meant to be a champion. Even though he literally fought until he could no longer stand, his love for boxing alone wasnt enough. IMO this is the best fight ive ever seen in any anime (not counting Hajime No Ippo: New Challenger) simply because it was the most real...

You rock. Not only that fight, but I enjoyed watching every other fight as well (from what I've seen of it that is). Honestly, I can dedicate an entire post to HnI alone because the fights are that great (for an old look, too). Slick animation. Nice fighting choreography. Fights are intense. The impact of the blows can be felt. But the fight(s) that struck out at me the most are Ippo vs Miyata, Ippo vs Sendo, and Ippo vs Vorg. Not only do the fights draw me in, but these characters are something else as well. I have HnI in the top 3 when it comes to characterization. (One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho are the only ones beating this out in terms of its characters)

Well, I'd have to think hard about this question in order to give a better answer, but for now:

Claymore - Teresa vs Pricilla, Irene, Sophia, and Noel
Never let your guard down during a fight.
EVER.

Fate/Stay Night - Archer vs Berserk
Not a huge fan of the anime, but that fight was great.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Roy Mustang vs Lust
Better than Ed vs Greed in my opinion, but still, it is a close call.

Jubei Chan
Never saw this anime, but I've seen this epic battle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZWLpxTfnB8

Samurai Champloo - Mugen vs Jin
It isn't just two different fighting styles, but two different philosophies that square off - and it is awesome.

Trigun - Vash vs Legato
Definitely one of the most intense face-oRAB in anime history.

And on that note, does the garabling episode in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure count?
I know it wasn't a physical fight, per se, but it was still just as entertaining - if not more so.

MoRAB, please close this thread down, because the search is over.
